Taking this event as an opportunity, we look at the earthquake events recorded in the Bible.
Let's think about how to respond spiritually to the earthquake that occurred in Haiti.
Today's text is Numbers 16:31-35.
The title is “The Meaning of Earthquakes in the Bible”.

At the same time as they had finished saying all these things, the land beneath them was divided.
32 The earth opened its mouth, and they and their families, and all who belonged to Korah,

33 They and all their belongings fell alive into Hades, and the earth was joined to it.
They perished in the assembly.
34 And all Israel around them heard their cry, and fled, saying,

35 And fire went forth from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men who were offering incense. -Amen-
Today's words are Korah, Dathan, and On the son of Peleth.
When he agitated the people and rose up against Moses with 250 chieftains.
It is the story of God causing an earthquake and killing them all.
In this way, God caused earthquakes to occur from time to time.
You had a good reason for doing that.
First. Earthquake was used as an expression of God's power.
According to Matthew 28:1-4,
When the Sabbath was over and the first day after the Sabbath was coming, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary

An angel of the Lord came down from heaven and rolled the stone away and sat on it.
His form was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.

It was the earthquake you caused.
To the women who came to the tomb before confirming the resurrected Jesus

Also in Acts 16:25-26
There is a record of demonstrating God's power through earthquakes.
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and praising God, and the prisoners were listening.
Then suddenly there was a great earthquake, and the roof was moved, and all the doors were opened immediately, and everyone

It was the method he used to rescue Paul and Silas from prison.
It was an earthquake.

Second, God also used earthquakes as a tool of warning.
According to Isaiah 29:6
The LORD Almighty swears by the thunder and the earthquake and the loud noise
I will punish them with fire; I have spoken with envy and fierce anger.
On that day a great earthquake would occur in the land of Israel.
The disposition of God recorded in the Old Testament is

One of them is in Isaiah 29, which I just read.

It shows that He expects you to turn around and return to the arms of God.

Third, God used earthquakes as instruments of judgment.

Fourth, God shows earthquakes as a sign of the last days.

When the disciples asked, What will be the sign of your coming and the end of the world?
In Jesus' answer
You will hear wars and rumors of wars, but take heed and fear not, these things must happen.
The end is not yet, nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places
There will be famines and earthquakes, all of which are the beginning of calamities.
One of the signs that Jesus' second coming is imminent is an earthquake.
The Lord Himself has spoken.
Dear listeners who love God!
As we have seen, earthquakes occur when God is happy and rejoicing.
I knew it wasn't what you were doing.
Rather, a warning to sinful man a judgment against the unrepentant,
Or, it is shown as a sign of the Second Coming of Jesus who will come to judge the earth.
if so,
What should we do after seeing the devastating earthquake in Haiti?
Above all else, we must take a fresh look at ourselves before God.
So we will have to turn from our sinful ways, and we will have to repent.
Furthermore, knowing that the second coming of Jesus is imminent,
We must do our best to fulfill our mission of preaching the gospel to the ends of the earth.
Because God loves us all
He will not let us perish in our sinful ways,
in various ways, including earthquakes.
He is waiting for you to return to God.
If we do not realize even with the earthquake in Haiti like now
God will continue to warn us of greater difficulties.
Today we call earthquakes caused by simple physical collisions of Earth's plates.
It should not be viewed only as a natural phenomenon.
to hear the voice of God,
to listen to God's warning,
We must accept it with God's love.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, there were 60 earthquakes in the Korean Peninsula last year.
It is said to be the largest number of earthquakes in 31 years since 1978, when earthquake observations began.
It was 10 more times than the previous peak of 50 in 2006.
It is said to have occurred 19 times more than the average of 49 times in the last 10 years.
God's message to us
It is strong and frequent evidence.
If the sky is red and cloudy in the morning, they say it will be a bad day today.
Again, Matthew 16:3 says, “Can you not discern the signs of the times while knowing how to do it?”
