"Parent's Mission"
(Deuteronomy 6:1-9)
(…) The Bible only says, “Honor your father and mother,” and there is no such word. That's right. Just because they are parents, I want to say that they deserve our respect and love. Coincidentally, the word ‘kabed’, which corresponds to ‘honor’, is also used to fear God (Proverbs 3:9). Ultimately, it is said that honoring your parents should be done as if you were serving God. Respect for parents is not with people, but with God.(…)
I always think. It is the parents' fault to make the filial piety disappear. The idea is that parents can teach filial piety to their children who do not know anything, so that their children can learn filial piety.(…) Today's text is a command from God. It is to teach your children. To build a healthy family, to build a beautiful community, to teach diligently. Why are you telling me to teach?
① Because children must be good citizens (verse 5).
Parents must make their children live as good people. This is a mission that parents must fulfill.(…) Humans are not created suddenly. A person begins prenatal education from conception. You must learn to walk and speak. (…) “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
② Children must be raised as believers (verse 7).
(…) You reap what you sow. If you sow much, you will reap much; if you sow little, you will reap little. If you do not sow, you will not reap. However, it is said that if a child who grew up in a non-religious environment erroneously leaves, it is difficult to return. In that sense, the foundation of life is that precious.(...) In today's sermon, “Teach your children diligently… Preach the word.” It is to make our children into godly believers. When we make religious education the foundation of our nation, we become a healthy nation.
③ We must make our children God's servants (verse 8).
