《True Evangelism》
(Colossians 2:8-15)
(…) Christianity in Korea has a history of over 120 years. Confucianism has a history of 500 years and Buddhism has a history of 1,000 years. Nevertheless, Christianity was more active than Buddhism or Confucianism and was able to do many things because of hard work. Even though Japan persecuted and harmed Christianity, we gathered diligently to worship and fight for national independence. When the North Korean Communist Party tried to eradicate Christianity, Christians in Pyongyang fled to the south and gathered eagerly. The strength of Christianity comes from gathering (…) Christians must gather diligently. Gather together to increase your faith in God and increase your love for the saints. When we gather together, we can abide in faith and our foundation will be solid. We do not waver in the hope of the gospel (Colossians 1:23).(…) I will testify about true evangelism this morning. Evangelism is a 1:1 ministry. 1:1 ministry reminds us of the fundamental problem of evangelism. The answer to the question of what is the purpose of evangelism is a question that everyone seems to know, but it is a vague question, so it is impossible to instill right faith.
① What is true evangelism?
Evangelism does not inspire religious interest. .(…)
② Then, what is the true purpose of evangelism?
“You have received Jesus Christ as Lord, and live in Him” (2:6). The purpose of evangelism is to receive the living Jesus Christ into each one of us. It is to live with God through the life of Jesus. (…) Christian faith is not simply intellectual conviction, but faith in God and love for people. It makes us take responsibility for our mission to God and our neighbors.(…)
③ If that is the purpose of evangelism, who is the true evangelist?
Anyone who has received Jesus Christ as their Savior must become an evangelist. We are commanded, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). Evangelism is not only done by a few experts. In the first church, the whole church evangelized as one. “Because you have received Jesus Christ as Lord, walk in him, rooted and built up in him, standing firm in the faith as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” In Jesus is the fullness of the Spirit, being raised up in him. You must become an evangelist. Amen!
