“To become a blessed being”
(1 Kings 17:8-16)
new translation)
8 The Lord said to Elijah,
9 "Now go to Zarephath, which is in Sidon, and live there. I commanded a widow there to give you something to eat."
10 Elijah got up immediately and went to Zarephath. As he entered the gates, a widow was gathering firewood. Elijah called the woman and said, “Please give me a bowl of water to drink.”
11 As the woman was about to go get water, Elijah called her again and said, "I wish I could bring you some food."
12 The woman said "As the Lord God, whom you serve, lives. I don't even have a loaf of bread. I only have a handful of flour in the back juice and a few drops of oil in the bottle. As you can see, I'm using firewood right now. I'm picking it up. I'm going to take this with me and try to eat all that's left, one last time, before me and my son die."
13 Elijah said to the woman, “Do not be afraid, go and do as I have just said. But make food and bring it to me first.
14 The wheat of the next week will not run out, and the jugs of oil will not run dry, says the Lord God of Israel, until the Lord sends rain again on the land."
15 The woman went and did as Elijah had said. Indeed, the woman and Elijah and her household ate for many days,
16 The flour from the wine did not run out, and the oil in the bottle did not dry out. It happened according to what the Lord had said through Elijah.
