Title: Do not serve two masters

Contents

The Israelites, who were rescued from Egypt, stayed in the wilderness of Sinai. Moses is going up to Mount Sinai to receive God's corporate law. The people, unable to bear it, persuaded Aaron to make an idol of a golden calf. The golden calf is the God who saved them from Egypt. The incident in today's text is the incident in which, despite knowing God's faithfulness, he fell God into an idol of a calf and committed a terrible sin of eating, drinking, and jumping in front of it. What spiritual lesson does this lesson teach us?

1. It is a case of serving two masters. (4-6)

It is an event of serving both God and money, that is, two masters. They say they are your gods who made golden calves and brought them out of the land of Egypt. They offer burnt offerings and peace offerings, and they sit down to eat and drink, and get up and play rebelliously.

Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters; either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other; for you cannot serve both God and riches.

2. Uses of silver and gold articles

The silver and gold items in verses 1-4 are free gifts from the Egyptians in Egypt. It is not a reward for hard work. These were given to the Egyptians who had been tormented by the ten plagues in a state of wanting to leave quickly. The reason God gave this riches was the name of the building offering for the construction of the tabernacle (tabernacle) in the wilderness. It was given as the tools for various sacrificial rites in the tent of meeting and the cost of building the tent of meeting. They made idols out of this material.

Where should we use the material God has given us?

3. Use it for God's Glory

Matthew 6:19 Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

Matthew 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroy, and where thieves do not break through and steal.

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:22 The eye is the lamp of the body; therefore, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light.

Matthew 6:23 If your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. Therefore, if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness?

Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters; either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other; for you cannot serve both God and riches.

The material God has given us must be used for the glory of God. It should be used for the kingdom of God and righteousness. However, these people worshiped God and the golden calf at the same time.

We must stand upright in materialism, where God is the giver and God is the taker. In any case, you must not put material things ahead of God. Nothing else should take precedence over God. Because it could be idolatry.

Matthew 22:37 Jesus said to them, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind."

Matthew 22:38 This is the great and first commandment.

Matthew 22:39 The second is like that, saying, Love your neighbor as yourself.

Matthew 22:40 These two commandments are all the law and the prophets.

I bless you all who love the Lord more.(*)
