Text: Genesis 24:1-9, Matthew 6:5-13
‘Where is the servant of Jehovah Jireh?’ Only God knows. ‘How will we meet?’ God must have planned. The words of the old wise man. “A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps” (Proverbs 16:9). ‘Is that so?’ Of course. Because God is faithful at all times and everywhere. These are the words given through the Gentile prophet Balaam. ‘God is not a man, so he is not arrogant; he is not a kind man, so he has no regrets. How can you not do what he has said, or put into practice what he has spoken?” (Numbers 23:19). Moses' farewell sermon. ‘You know. But the LORD your God is God. He is a faithful God...those who believe and obey -> keep the covenant to a thousand generations....those who disbelieve and disobey -> He will recompense immediately' (Deuteronomy 7:9-10).
Even in the life of Abraham, the father of faith, there will be changes over the years that cannot be resisted. Sarah, her lifelong companion, dies (Genesis 23). During the economic crisis, a Hittite field is purchased and a funeral is held (the Cave of Machpelah). As I look back on my life and look around, I think of the marriage of the 40-year-old reader Isaac. He certainly had an extraordinary life. This is the record of the journey of life that began after receiving God's call. “Abraham grew old and grew old, and the Lord blessed him in everything” (Genesis 24:1). Also, God was faithful to His promises (Genesis 12:1-3). “Everything” includes all the people he met, all the places he lived, and all the events that happened to him, until the end of his life (Genesis 25:7). This is the result of God's faithfulness to his promises and his faith and obedience according to the words of Abraham.
Today's Old Testament text (Genesis 24:1-9) will be another example of that prosperity. It is the wedding of Isaac, an important son in life. Eliezer, a faithful servant, was at one time a man whom Abraham thought was a deficit in fulfilling God's promise. The meaning of the name is ‘God is the Helper’. He placed his hand on Abraham's hip bone and made him take an oath. This is to order them to find a match for their son Isaac. Women in the land of Canaan are excluded. I command you to save it from the people of your hometown (Haran). The servant with an important responsibility receives this blessing from Abraham before he sets out on the road. “The LORD, the God of heaven, took me away from my father’s house and from my land, and said to me, ‘I will give this land to your descendants,’ and he will send his messenger before you” (Genesis 24:7).
Traveling a long way, he prays to God for help, as he has learned in the life of his master. Among his prayers, there is a prayer that says, “May we meet in peace” (Genesis 24:12). It means ‘smoothly and properly’. The beliefs and prayers of the two elders, who had been together for the rest of their lives, were very similar. It is the condition of a bride that God has prepared. When asked, ‘Tilt the jar of water so that I can drink,’ she replied, ‘Even camels will drink’ (Genesis 24:14). He answers your prayers even before they are finished. “Because they were not able to finish speaking” (Genesis 24:15a), the prepared girl appears (Isaiah 65:24). The groom's attitude towards the bride is very special. “I went out to the field at evening to meditate” (Genesis 24:63). The first monogamous families in polygamous cultures. The theme of the Lord's Prayer is 'Thy will be done'.
