Title: Do you love me/John 21:17
Content Do you love me/John 21:17
“The third time he said to him, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” The third time the Lord said, “Do you love me?” Peter was troubled and said, “Lord, you know everything, and you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.” (John 21:17)
Peter and some of the disciples, who had followed Jesus for three years, were disappointed when Jesus died on the cross and went to their hometown of Galilee to fish. However, the resurrected Lord came to them and gives them the opportunity to call again.
First, Jesus came to the failed disciples. You cannot live life without failure. You can discover through the text that even failure is an important process in life. Peter fishes without Jesus. Strangely, they toileted all night, but were not caught. Jesus, who came to them, showed the Lord again through his full-blown experience so that they could recognize him. Our Lord is not only with us when we are prosperous, but rather comes to us when we are suffering from the bitter bitterness of life, and He is with us and builds us up with His power. Therefore, we must always depend on the Lord.
Second, the coming Lord asks if you love me. When the Lord came, he had breakfast with his disciples with bread and fish. Peter was so ashamed that he couldn't even lift his head in front of Jesus. On the part of Jesus, there must have been a lot of human words to say to the bad Peter.
But Jesus did not ask a single word about past wrongs. And you ask the same question three times. “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Why? It is because the only thing our Lord requires of Peter now is 'love'. So, when Peter confessed that he loved the Lord, Jesus gave the mission, "Feed my sheep."
Saints! Even now, the Lord asks our saints. There is no need for any other reason or excuse or many words or reproofs.
