Text: Exodus 20:12
Today is Father's Day.
God gave us parents, and through them we were born and lived in this world, so the grace of our parents is so noble and indescribable that it is indescribable and indescribable. On the occasion of Mother's Day, I pray that God will love you more and give you more blessings to those who become daughters-in-law who live with your parents-in-law.
In today's world, there are many problems. Externally, there are problems with the opacity of the Six-Party Talks and the threat of North Korea's nuclear test. Internally, conflicts of ideology, conflicts between regions, and distrust in politics are prevalent. However, there is an equally big problem: ① the number of collapsed families is rapidly increasing, ② the entry into an aging society has accelerated, and ③ the fertility rate has fallen to the lowest in the world. As a result, people are showing selfish, calculating, self-centered and self-righteous personalities.
What could be the reason for this?
This is because people forget “the moral”, that is, the “right path that people should follow in their lives.”
Yesterday, a candlelight protest was held in front of City Hall because of the changes in the education system to be implemented from the current first year of high school. As the title of the May 5 cartoon of the Chosun Ilbo says, “The candles are set by the locals” and it is a spectacle that only the students and teachers attending the meeting are commanded. Unlike in the 60s and 70s, these days, it has become a 'lost world' where parental education does not work for their children.
In Job 21:14-16 we read, “We do not delight in knowing the ways of the Lord, but say, Who is the Almighty, and what profit does it have for us to serve and pray?
Every human being has a right to it. If you leave this, you become a wicked person before God. Today, I would like to testify to the Word about the duty of parents and the duty of children. I pray that you will realize, repent, and decide to become the protagonist of a new life.
1. It is the duty of parents.
Parents should set an example for their children. When the upper water is clear, the lower water is clear. To do that,
1) We must throw away the thought of living without the Word.
As Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Prior to your children, you must do ① a good life of worship, ② be diligent in your prayer life, and ③ serve, dedicate, and be faithful.
2) We must abandon the idea of golden universalism.
Don't focus everything on money. Make sure that the reason your children study is to live like a human being, live for their neighbors, and live for the glory of God. The purpose of education should be holistic education, and putting it on one's success, fame, and wealth is not healthy.
3) You must let go of the idea that knowledge is the best.
‘Take a break in high school and go to college and go to church’ is an act that makes the soul sick and kills. It is the duty of parents to raise them as people who receive grace when they are young, are filled with the Holy Spirit, discern the world wisely, and know the right values and principles.
2. It is your child's duty.
This is filial piety. As in Ephesians 6:1-3, “Children, honor your parents in the Lord, for this is right… It may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” This is your child's duty.
Longevity (Hell, macrochronios) is the grace of God. In the Bible, there are people who did not live long and were killed. ① Those who blasphemed God’s name and spoke often (Leviticus 24:11-14,16) ② Those who worshiped other gods and bowed down (Deuteronomy 17:3-5) ③ Those caught in adultery (Deuteronomy 22:23-24) ④ Parents Those who are rebellious and corrupt (Deuteronomy 21:18-21), etc. So, please respect your parents.
One survey found that parents hate their children when they do this.
① When children lie (37.2%)
②When you don't listen to people (36.5%)
③ When not studying, not getting a job, playing and eating (11.9%)
④ When you think of friends of the opposite sex more than your parents (6.0%)
⑤ Coming home late (4,1%) ⑥ Comparing with other parents (3.9%), etc.
Dear members of Shepherd Church,
Parents who have children, please do your duty as a parent. Also, I pray that those who have parents will fulfill their duties as children, realize that we are all children of God, and live a life that is pleasing to God. Hallelujah, Amen
