Title: Does God Do It?
Contents
8:26 The angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Arise, and go southward, as far as the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. The road is the wilderness.
8:27 I got up and went and found an Ethiopian eunuch who was in charge of all the treasuries of Kandace, queen of Ethiopia, coming to Jerusalem to worship.
8:28 As he was returning, he rode in a chariot and read the words of the prophet Isaiah.
8:29 The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go near to this chariot.”
8:30 Philip ran and heard that the prophet Isaiah was reading, and said, Do you understand what you are reading?
8:31 He answered, "How can I understand, since there is no one to guide me?" He asked Philip to get into the chariot and sit down with him.
8:32 This is the scripture we read, saying, He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
8:33 When he was humiliated, he received no just judgment; who can speak of his generation, for his life is taken from the earth.
8:34 And the eunuch said to Philip, I ask, I beg of you, to whom did the prophet refer, to himself or to others?
8:35 Philip opened his mouth and, beginning with this writing, taught Jesus and preached the gospel.
8:36 On the way, he came to a place with water, and the eunuch said, Behold, there is water; what hinders me from being baptized?
8:37 (none)
8:38 Then he commanded that the carts be stopped, and both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and Philip baptized.
8:39 As they both came up from the water, the Spirit of the Lord led Philip away, and the eunuch went on his way gladly, and he saw him no more.
8:40 Philip appeared in Azotus, and went through the cities, preaching the gospel, and came to Caesarea.
