Title: Dominus Flevit
Dominus Flevit
Luke 19:41-44
November 3, 2007 (Sat) Worship at the site - Jerusalem Mount of Olives Tears Church
On this day, a 'Field Worship' was held at the 'Church of Tears' (or Church of the Lord's Tears, Dominus Flevit) in the middle of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
We held a service in the chapel of Tears Church, and it was an impressive worship service at the scene where Jesus wept over Jerusalem. May you be blessed together...
This place where we worship today is a church built on the site where Jesus wept over Jerusalem. The name of the church is called "Dominus Flevit" in Latin, which means "the Lord wept". In our language, we call it "Church of Tears" or "Church of Tears of the Lord."
If you look at the first part of the text, you can see that this is the time when Jesus entered Jerusalem. To the east of the Mount of Olives, there is a place called Bethphage, and from there he rode a colt toward Jerusalem.
As Jesus passed by, many people took off their cloaks, spread palm branches, and cheered Jesus as he entered Jerusalem, saying, “Hosanna, Hosanna, O King who comes in the name of the Lord.” It is the day we call 'Palm Sunday'.
In the procession of people cheering and hosannas, Jesus weeps. It doesn't match the cheers of people at all.
Why did you cry? Is it because of the warm welcome from people? Are you crying because you are moved by the sound of hosanna cheers? no. Was it because he knew that in a few days he would be arrested, tortured and crucified to death? no.
