Title: Don't Go Back to Elementary School
Contents
Gal. 4:1-11 Do not return to elementary studies Topic: 20. Faith. 2007. 1. 28.
◎ Introduction
: Some of the churches in Galatia were teaching that people are saved by the law (when they are good and godly, when they do their best).
※ The Bible says that in order to receive the right to live with God, a person must be perfect. But one cannot be perfect.
※ How can humans be saved? Evidences that a person is justified by faith, not by law or works.
① There was a time when the world was in bondage. (1~3)
②When the time is fulfilled, God saves the world (4-7)
※ There are five appeals for justification through faith alone (Galatians 4:8~5:12).
① Do not go back (8-11)
② Awaken the love for God's work (12-20)
③Listen to what the law really says (21-31)
④ Stand firm in the freedom of Christ. (5:1~6)
⑤ Obey the truth (5:7~12)
1. There was a time when the world was in bondage. (1~3)
※ Example: A child who will receive an inheritance (1~3)
※ The child to be inherited is under the protection of guardians and trustees or rulers until the appointed time to inherit his inheritance comes.
※ The main point: It was under the elementary education of the world.
*The elementary studies of the world refer to the elementary ideas or thoughts that humans have about God and the various ways that humans seek to approach God.
( ①Hebrews 5:12, ②Col 2:8, ③2 Peter 3:10, ④Col 2:20, ⑤Acts 15:10, ⑥Gal 5:1, ⑦Gal 4:9 )
* refers to anything that is pleasing to God and used by people to gain God's favor and approval
※ The main point: In the sight of Christ, all human means to reach God are merely elementary approaches.
(For it has only the basic knowledge that requires discipline and instruction by the law.)
(1 Corinthians 14:20, Ephesians 4:14, Hebrews 5:12, )
2. When the time is fulfilled, God saves the world (4-7)
※ It is one of the great Bible texts dealing with the work of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
One). Notice that God prepared the world for the coming of Christ.
※ The time is true: The coming was accomplished at the most appropriate time determined by God in His providence.
2). Notice that God sent His Son into the world to save people.
(John 3:16-17, 6:38, 7:29, 8:12, 9:4, 10:36-38)
3). Notice that God sent His Son by “begotten of woman” (“begotten of woman”).
※ God sent His Son as a human being in virgin birth to save people.
(Luke 1:31, John 1:14, Philippians 2:7, 1 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 2:14-15, 1 John 4:2)
4). Notice that God made His Son begotten under the law.
※ Jesus Christ had to live under the law to ensure perfect righteousness according to the law for man. (Romans 8:3-4, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15, 7:25-26, 1 Peter 1:18-19)
5). Notice why God sent His Son
※ He was sent to redeem people.
6). Notice the result of God sending His Son to redeem people.
①Those who believe have the right to be the sons of God. (John 1:12, Romans 8:15, 2 Corinthians 6:17~18, ))
(2) Believers receive confirmation that they have been accepted by God through the Spirit of God.
(Rom 8:16, Gal 4:6, 1 John 3:24, 4:13, 5:6.)
③Those who believe become heirs of God. (Romans 8:16-17, Gal 3:29, Titus 3:7, Hebrews 1:14, 6:17, 1 Pet 1:3-4)
