Title: Double Inspiration / 2 Kings 2:7-11

Contents

Sir James Young Simpson, a famous British obstetrician and gynecologist, was born in Basgate, Scotland in 1811. After graduating from Edinburgh University School of Medicine in 1832, he became professor of obstetrics at the University of Edinburgh in 1940 at the age of 29. .

In November 1947, Simpson surprised the world by discovering an anesthetic called chloroform.

The characteristic of chloroform anesthetic is that it has less detoxification compared to other anesthetics that have been used in the past and can deliver labor without pain.

A few years later, Simpson gave a lecture at his alma mater, the University of Edinburgh. After the lecture, he was asked the following question from a student: “What was the greatest discovery of your life?” “Chloroform” was expected. But Dr. Simpson's answer was surprising. “The most precious discovery in my life is Jesus Christ, for He is the Savior who saved me… "Called.

There is a subject of prayer that we should long for and seek during this year and until the day our lives are over.

In other words, we need to know clearly what is the greatest title we need to earnestly cry for and long for.

Is it honor? Is it money? Success? Is it happiness? Of course it has to be multiplied. But that doesn't exist forever until it's a thousand and ten thousand times bigger. And it doesn't satisfy my soul. We find the most precious double title in the text. In the second half of 2:9, “Elisha He said, "I ask that your inspiration be doubled to me."

2 Kings 2:1-11 is the knight of Elijah's ascension. And 2 Kings 1 contains the knight who died when King Ahaziah fell from the upper rail of the palace.

Ahaziah was the son of King Ahab. As we remember, King Ahab was one of the evil kings who married Jezebel and served the idols of Baal and committed all kinds of atrocities. In fact, Elijah Ahn warned, “Are you going to inquire of Bael-zebub because there is no God in Israel?

In contrast to the disastrous end of King Ahaziah, Chapter 2 describes the glorious ascension scene of Elijah. The tragic end of the world lord and the glorious ascension between the servant of God and the glorious ascension are in stark contrast. His end was glorious and proud. It is said that Billy Graham, a world-renowned evangelist in America, faced three temptations that were difficult to overcome during his lifetime.

The first was when I got a Republican offer to run for the Senate,

The second was when I was invited to run for Vice President of the Republican Party,

The third was when the world's richest man in Florida was asked to build the world's most ideal Christian university for tens of billions of dollars.

However, he resisted three temptations on the grounds that he was “I am an evangelist.” If Billy Graham had accepted one of the three offers, God would have removed him from the list of evangelists.

Elisha is Elijah's disciple. As he followed Elijah, his teacher, he witnessed and experienced firsthand the pain and suffering of his teacher. He witnessed the humiliation of God's servants and also experienced economic trials. I've been through fights and I've been through persecution.

The teacher, Elijah, who lived a life of good fortune, was moving from Gilgal to Bethel to ascend to heaven for the last time.

And at the end of the Jordan River, two men stood. Elijah asked. “What do you want?” This is the last question. Elisha answers. “All my life, I have been following my teacher and suffering to death. I couldn't afford a single pyeong of land or even a single house. It's amazing and sad that only the teacher is ascending to heaven after making a bald eagle. If you have to leave, please give me all the money." Let's say that Elisha was rejected. So, let's say that Elisha was sore, ate and lived well, and then died. Then why was it necessary to record Jolbu Yeoljeon in the Bible?

Elisha was not like that. His request was, “I ask for double your inspiration.” A prophet is a corpse without inspiration. Just as an incompetent professor is not a professor, a healer is a doctor. A prophet without inspiration is not a prophet. He sought double inspiration because it was Elisha who knew this.

What matters is the result. From that day on, he became a servant of God, full of inspiration and spiritual power. After receiving double inspiration, let's look at Elisha's life.

1. It was full of power and miracles.

Here are a few examples.

In 2 Kings 2:14, Elijah's cloak struck the water of the Jordan River and split it. In 2 Kings 2:19 and below, he sprinkled salt to heal the water from the source of Jericho.

In 2 Kings 2:23, when they cursed the young men who were ridiculed for being bald in Bethel, two females came out and tore 42 of them.

In 2 Kings 4:17, the childless woman living in Shunem was blessed to have a son. In 2 Kings 4:32 and below, when the Shunammite woman's son was sick and died, he saved the child. 2 Kings 4:39 In 2 Kings 4:42 and below, there was a case where 100 people were fed with 20 barley loaves and a sack of vegetables. Healed my own leprosy, who was the Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Aramae.

In 2 Kings 6:1 and below, while cutting wood with a borrowed ax, the ax fell into the lake, and he threw a branch to make the ax float and was rescued.

In 2 Kings 6:12, Elisha knew all the noises in the bedroom of the king's palace in Aram. In 2 Kings 6:17, God's fire horses and chariots of fire were mobilized to repel the enemies of Aram.
