Old Testament

1. The LORD came to me with power, and by his spirit he took me and placed me in the middle of the valley, where it was full of bones.

2. He made me pass on all the bones, and behold, there were very many bones on the ground of the valley and it was very dry

3. And he said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? I answered, Sovereign LORD, you know.

4. And he said to me, Prophesy to all these bones, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, ye dry bones.

5. This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will bring breath into you, and you will live.

6. I will put sinews on you, I will clothe you with flesh, and I will cover you with skin, and I will breathe life into you, and you will live. And you will know that I am the LORD.”

7. So I prophesied as I was commanded, and as I prophesied, there was a sound and a movement, and one bone and another bone struck, and the bones were joined together.

8. And I saw that the bones had sinews, and flesh grew on them, and there was a covering of skin over them, but there was nothing growing in them.

9. And he said to me, “Son of man, prophesy to the breath, and prophesy to the breath, saying, This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come, breath, from the four winds, and blow on these slain, that they may live.”

10. And I prophesied as he had commanded me, and breath of life entered them, and immediately they came to life and stood up, an exceedingly great army.

new testament

22. We know that the whole creation has been groaning and suffering together until now.

23. Not only that, but we also, even we, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan within ourselves, waiting for adoption, the redemption of our body.

24. For by hope we have been saved, and hope that is seen is not hope; who can expect what we see?

25. If we hope for what we do not see, let us wait patiently.

26. In the same way the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

27. He who searches hearts knows the thoughts of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

sermon

The vision that God gave Ezekiel begins eerie. Ezekiel was led to a valley, the bottom of which was full of human bones. They had long since died and were white dry bones. God asks Ezekiel there. “Can these bones live?”

Even today, there are dry bones in our lives. A community where there is no hope, people who are incompetent, weak and unable to help. A situation that shows no sign of change, such a family, society, and nation. But God can save them and make them a great army. When and how can that be done?

1. When human effort is impossible: God's work begins where human effort ends. God's power does not work while man still struggles that he can do it on his own. Where human means and methods have been abandoned, God begins when they become powerless, dead ends, and hopeless dry bones.

2. When the word of the Lord is proclaimed: The Lord commands Ezekiel to prophesy. It is said to these bones, “Hear the word of the Lord, ye dry bones,” and prophesying to the breath of life, “Come from the four winds, and blow on these slain, that they may live.” The power to make life is in the Word. It happens when the Word is proclaimed.

3. When the Spirit of the Lord came: When Ezekiel prophesied according to his command, the dry bones were joined together and tendons, flesh, and skin were formed, but there was nothing. Even if the appearance is restored, if there is no vitality, nothing can be done. But when the breath of the Spirit of the Lord entered them, they arose and became a great army. When the Holy Spirit comes upon us, we become alive.

God gives us life. When it is impossible with human strength, God's Word is proclaimed, and when the Spirit of the Lord comes, He makes dry bones live. The Lord's promise to restore the Spirit was fulfilled by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. When the Holy Spirit came upon the discouraged, lethargic, and fearful disciples, they stood up as soldiers of the Lord. Let's receive the Holy Spirit from the Lord. He will save us and our community
