Title: A day to become a sacrifice of praise to God
I will sing praises to God's name, and with thanksgiving I will say, "God is great." This will please the Lord more than offering an ox, an ox with horns and hooves (Psalm 69:30-31).
Among the anecdotes produced by the Korean War, there is a story of a ‘singing marine’. The protagonist of this story is Sergeant Schultz of F Company, 5th Marine Regiment. He always sang hymns. One night while standing on a sentinel, he was attacked by an advancing enemy infiltrator and shot. A quiet hymn escaped the fallen Sergeant Schultz's mouth. The hymn he sang as he was dying was, “There on Calvary, on the rugged mountain cross . . .” Surprisingly, the enemy troops all fled before the end of this song, and the marines who were attacked were rather courageous and won the victory. The 5th Regiment chaplain said as he recalled Sergeant Schultz. “His hymns had a truly mysterious power. Hearing was not very good, but I was able to find comfort and courage by listening to his hymns that he sang with all his heart.
It is the Christian duty to rely on and exalt God's power. The hymn that comes from not only the lips but also from the deep inside is his confession of faith and character. Therefore, those who give sincere praise give the greatest glory to God. I pray that the members of spirituality today will live a life of offering true worship in the form of actual worshipers, not formal worshipers.
God, work today so that the members of our spirituality offer a life of offering praise to God in spirit and truth through confession of faith. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
