Title: Early Childhood Faith/Hebrews 5:13
Content Infant Faith/Hebrews 5:13
Key Verse: “For everyone who drinks milk is a child, and they have never experienced the word” (verse 13).
Word: A person goes through many stages from birth to becoming an adult. No one can be an exception. Likewise, faith goes through the process of growing from the experience of being born again to the measure of Christ (Ephesians 4:15). It's not about how long you believed. In Matthew 19:30 it says, “But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.”
In today's text, the faith of infancy is referred to as a sucker, that is, a child. At the same time, it is said that the characteristics of a child are ‘those who suckle milk, that is, those who have not experienced the Word. Could there be a faith that has not experienced the Word? How can we live a life of faith without experiencing the Word? At the time of Jesus, many people followed Him. At the miracle site, they cheered and went wild. When they entered Jerusalem, they welcomed Jesus as their king. But a few days later, they cried out for Jesus to be crucified.
Why? Even though they were at the miracle site, they did not know the meaning of the miracle. In other words, it could not be connected with the Word. Also, they waited for the Messiah they wanted, not interested in the Messiah God wanted and planned. Because they had an early view of faith, they could not escape from their egocentric thinking. Knowing the Word and experiencing it are different. Reading the Bible and having fun are different. There is a difference between worshiping and falling into the thrill of worship.
These days, we sometimes hear the term ‘adult child’. The body grew up to be an adult, but the mental state did not break the way of thinking and the frame of infancy, and the wounds of infancy could not be healed, so the wounds were unknowingly formed into the personality. One of the characteristics of such a person is that they tend to become “trouble makers.” If you look at the process that causes problems even in the church, most of them are caused by the wounds experienced when you were a child of faith. Sometimes there are infants of faith who refuse to be cared for. After some time such infants suffer a serious blow to the health of their faith. No, you can die. And there are cases where it is impossible to throw away negative thoughts about faith for the rest of your life, as if you have tasted all of your faith. How about you?
Prayer: Adult children of faith, do we not have the image of faith that has not grown up? Have you ever harmed those around you with your egocentric appearances? May our faith grow through the Word. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
