Title: Education of Children/Proverbs 13:24
Content Education of children (Proverbs 13:24)
2000. 4. 9 Sunday evening sermon (Rev. Dooman Jo)
I have been emphasizing several times, 'Feed your children with tears'. I have emphasized several times, 'Let your children travel with them.' Especially today, beware of overprotection. In an era where everyone has only one or two children, it is easy to ruin their children's education by overprotecting them. Children are a gift from God. Don't mistake me for my child. It is a misconception that 'you have to grow up well to rely on old age'.
1. erroneous education
1) Unwillingness to transcend (Proverbs 13:24)
Chodal means a young branch, a club, or a stick, and it does not only mean beating, it is a metaphor for general discipline. It means the new shoot of forsythia. It is a long word of sorghum The anger subsides while you go to pick it up. And instead of hitting right away, hit the floor once and release the cover. And when you actually beat the rod of education, your anger is gone.
2) to let it be arbitrary (Proverbs 29:15)
"Leave it alone" refers to a wild donkey being left unattended and wandering around. It's about letting the little ones do what they want. If you don't do well, you need to know how to teach, cook, and sew.
2. Causes and Effects of False Education
1) I hate it (Proverbs 13:24)
He says he loves his children and hates them, that is, he does not know how to reward and punish between good and evil. Let's contrast the family of Eli (1 Samuel 3:3-14) and the family of Abraham (Genesis 18:19).
2) Disgrace the mother (Proverbs 29:15)
It is the retribution returned to the mother who neglected to do wrong because she loved her child.
3. Right Education
1) Discipline diligently (Proverbs 13:24)
"Sincerely" means early. This refers to the morning of life, that is, childhood. When I was young, I used to chopsticks, so when I grow up, I am good at chopping. Foreigners are not good at chopping. The reason is that I haven't done it since I was a kid.
4. Reasons to educate
1) I love you (Proverbs 13:24)
Just as children go to the hospital when they get sick, it is the love of parents to treat their children when they develop religious, mental, and ethical ailments.
2) There is hope (Proverbs 19:18)
If there is any hope of improvement by chasing the son, it means to do so (Job 11:18, Jeremiah 31:16).
3) The habit of being three years old until eighty (Proverbs 20:11)
It is said that the temperament of a child determines the temperament of an adult. You can tell what kind of person you will become when you grow up by looking at your personality when you are young.
4) It gives wisdom (Proverbs 29:15)
Education is what seniors pass on to juniors, so the right education makes the right disciples. Before looking for Elisha, we must see if I have become Elijah. This is because Elisha can be raised as a disciple.
5. Teaching method
1) Teach them the way to go (Proverbs 22:6)
"The way he ought to go" means to be worthy of his character. This refers to education that children can understand, that is, Bible education (Proverbs 13:24, 19:18, 23:12-14). "Teach" means to give to God. It is said that there are no cases of children who have attended church kindergarten since entering the prison. That is why Bible education at a young age is so important.
2) With a whip (Proverbs 22:15)
It refers to authority and authority, and children are wrong because parents do not justify the authority of this discipline when raising children.
3) Discipline well (Proverbs 23:12)
"Discipline" refers to the Word of God. "Conscientiousness" refers to the total dedication of the heart (Prov. 3:5; Deut. 6:5; 2 Chron. 16:9; Ps. 138:1; Jer. 29:13).
4) to listen to the word of knowledge (Proverbs 23:12)
"Word of knowledge" refers to the words of the Bible. “Listen to your ears” means to listen to where your heart is.
5) With rebuke (Proverbs 29:15)
Scolding comes from love, and a person who likes to be scolded is evidence of growing up in good things.
6. Things to pay attention to in education
1) Do not set your heart to kill, discipline yourself (Proverbs 19:18)
In the Septuagint, it is translated as 'Do not do reverent things out of excitement in your heart'.
2) Don't be afraid to die (Proverbs 23:13)
It means that if you do not beat your child for fear of death, and if you punish your child for a crime and make it good, the soul will not die and will be saved.
7. Results of Education
1) Abandoning the entanglements of lust in the heart (Proverbs 22:15)
The hearts of children are full of regrets. So, if you just let it go, it will perish.
2) Do not depart until old age (Proverbs 22:6)
Trees grow as they were when they were young. In this way, they grow up according to the habits formed in childhood.
3) The soul is saved from Hades (Proverbs 23:14)
Punishing a child who has sinned saves both spirit and body from misfortune and destruction.
4) Peace and rejoicing of parents (Proverbs 29:17)
When parents discipline their children in a kind way, good grades will eventually appear, which is a joy to the parents. We must not forget that the greatest teachers are parents.
