Title: Eschatological Perspectives on the World/Isaiah 24
An apocalyptic view of the content world
Isaiah 24
God's judgment toward the nations expands its scope and extends to the universal judgment that will come upon the whole world (chapters 24-27). And the character of the judgment, which was both regional and limited, is also expanded to be comprehensive and universal.
1. The Universal Character of Judgment (1-6)
① Jehovah’s judgment is comprehensive and there is no discrimination (1-4)
Isaiah refers to the ‘earth’ as the object of judgment. Earth means this world that God created. Therefore, God's judgment will be universal and will come indiscriminately at the same time. God's judgment will come upon all.
② The cause of judgment is that the covenant with God was broken (5-6)
Thorough judgment of the land is closely related to the morality of the people. God's judgment comes because of the disobedience of breaking the law, that is, moral corruption.
2. Loss of joy and worship of the remnant (7-20)
① God's judgment makes people lose their joy (7-13)
God's judgment is marked by a loss of joy, and Isaiah prophesied that the wine would be completely cut off. This means that God's universal judgment will result in the loss of all God's blessings.
② Even in the midst of judgment, the remnant will fear God.(14-16)
It is made clear that the remnant will continue to worship God in the midst of a comprehensive and thorough judgment. It is clear that God's work of salvation will not be interrupted in the midst of judgment and will maintain salvation through the remnant.
③ The time of God's judgment is when sins are full (17-20)
God's universal judgment is manifested in the destruction of the earth, and it is said that the time of this judgment is the graveness of sin.
3. Purpose of Judgment (21-23)
① God's judgment will end by punishing the highest authority on this earth (21-22)
The purpose of God's judgment extends to the kings, or leaders, who exercise the rulership of this world.
② The ultimate purpose of judgment is to glorify God.(23)
It is revealed that the ultimate purpose of this judgment is that God will become King on Mount Zion and Jerusalem and glorify the elders.
