Eternal home (Hebrews 11:8~10,13~16)

In our country, on New Year's Day and Chuseok, which are national holidays, many people visit their homeland. Everyone has a nostalgia for the hometown where they were born and raised. If you look at today's text, you will find the story of your hometown. In the text, the writer says that people of faith lived and died as strangers on this earth according to their faith. They could have returned to their original hometown, but they longed for their heavenly hometown. The path of our saints is like this pilgrim's path. Just as a pilgrim makes a pilgrimage to the holy land, believers must live their lives as pilgrims heading toward heaven with a holy purpose. Abraham in today's text lived the life of a pilgrim. I hope that we too will live in this world with the same spirit as Abraham.

I. God's Call and Abraham's Response (8)

He obeyed God's call "not knowing where he was going". Abraham's obedience is the faith that entrusts the future he does not know to God. There was immediate obedience, believing in God's guidance, without the slightest doubt. So he was called the father of faith, and he was respected by many.

.I knew this world as a temporary place to stay (9)

The Israelites also lived in tents for 40 years in the wilderness, and their tabernacles were also tents. Abraham lived his life on this earth in a tent, living as a sojourner. our life is a stranger I am a traveler on my way to my hometown. The more experienced travelers, the less luggage. Let us also live as strangers and come before God with joy when He calls us.

. I longed for the eternal home that God made (10)

The reason Abraham was able to keep his faith and live like a stranger on this earth was because he saw a better kingdom of heaven and the eternal city. Because our members have their hometown and hometown to return to, they can overcome the toil, pain, and tribulation in this world. Let's live on this earth until we go to that country and live a life of faith and preparation.

.Everyone born into this world dies (13)

People who are about to die become serious. become pure The sound of conscience coming from the depths of your heart reminds you that life is never worthless enough to be wasted with momentary pleasures. You will regret the folly you spent pursuing pleasure. Ecclesiastes 12:7 says, “Remember before the dust returns to the earth, and the gods return to the God who gave it.” Hebrews 9:27 “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”

Many forefathers of faith knew this fact, so they looked to the world beyond death and used it as a period to prepare for the present judgment and eternal life. Saints! We hope that life on this earth will be a process of preparation for entering our eternal hometown.

. The hometown guaranteed to the saints (15)

John 14:3 says, “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, that where I am, you may be also.” The saints should live a life like a stranger on this earth, live with faith looking to their eternal home, and live a life that prepares for death. If you know right away that eternal life is guaranteed in your hometown, you will never become timid or cowardly about life on this earth. If you expect only your homeland and neglect your life on this earth, you will lose both. Therefore, believers must be active in proclaiming the truth, proclaiming the truth, and living according to the truth.

Many people came to their hometown to celebrate the national holiday. But remember that there is a better homeland, longing for our homeland, prepare to enter that country, and as the people of that country, we hope that you will endure hardships and difficulties in this land and live a more active and rewarding life. . We came from a different physical hometown, but in the Lord we are all East Asians. Let's all look forward to the day we reunite in a better hometown. Our Lord is preparing a place where there are no tears, no sorrow, no disease, no absurdity, no pollution, no entrance exams and no suffering. We wish all of our members a happy life in their eternal hometown.
