Title: Exodus 28
Content Exodus 28:1-5
Up to now there has been detailed revelation from God concerning the various parts of the tabernacle. While listening to the explanation, Moses is instructed to make clothes for Aaron and his sons, telling them to continue to make Aaron and his sons as priests. The priest's garments are to be adorned "gloriously and beautifully with holy garments", and therefore are led by the Spirit of God (vv. 2, 3).
Exodus 28:6-14 (39:1-7)
An ephod is a garment made of a special mixture of gold thread in addition to the finely braided linen, blue, purple, and scarlet thread along with the belt for tying it. The names of the six tribes of Israel were engraved on each of the two gems called onyx. Shoulder straps were pockets for holding onyx, and were worn on each shoulder of the high priest. These two shoulder straps were to show the unity of Israel by allowing them to be interconnected.
Aaron's ephod was decorated with such ornaments, and Aaron made a memorial to all the people of Israel before the Lord, and also showed the priest's duty to lead all the Israelites before God (v. 12).
Exodus 28:15-30 (39:8-21)
This breastplate, made of five-colored yarn in the same way as the ephod, was made to the size of a span and then overlapped in two layers. After putting gold rings on each of the four places below and above, the upper part was also connected with the gold frame on the shoulder strap of the ephod with a gold chain, and the lower part with the belt of the ephod.
On the breastplate, three jewels were placed in four rows of three each. The first row was made of rhododendron, topaz, and chrysanthemum; the second row was garnet, indigo, and red agate; the third row was amber, white agate, amethyst; and the fourth row, green gemstone, agate, and jasper. It was. Each of these jewels was engraved with the name of each tribe of Israel.
In addition, the Urim and Thummim were placed in the breastplate of judgment. It has the meaning of “light” and “completeness”, but it is not known in detail what kind of object it is. However, it can only be known to the extent that it was used as a means of judging good or bad, that is, discerning the will of God (1 Samuel 14:37; 23:9; 2 Samuel 2:1, etc.) ). Therefore, it was called the breastplate of judgment.
Exodus 28:31-35 (9:22-26)
Here, the outer garment is the garment of a base worn in the ephod. One gold wool and one pomegranate are alternately attached to this robe, so that when the priest moves, a sound is made. By the sound of this bell, the people could know that the high priest was working in the sanctuary.
Exodus 28:36-43 (39:27-31)
It is a record of the bandana, banpo underwear, coffins and belts. The hood was made of pure gold to be attached to the crown worn on the head, and the words “Holiness to the Lord” were engraved (verse 36). That is why it is also called “the crown of holiness” (39:30).
