Text: Matthew 6:19-24
Title: Faith and Money
Introduction
1. The Bible says you cannot serve two masters. “Faith and money” It is an inseparable and important task.
2. If you had to choose between faith and money, which one would you choose? It is our honest reality that this is important and that is also important.
3. The Lord's instruction about money is firm. “Do not lay up for yourselves on earth.” But is there anyone who doesn't save money just because they believe it?
4. A more accurate understanding and meditation on the text is necessary. What is the main reason for saying this?
I. Do not lay up for yourself treasures on earth (19).
A. Group fight (stack up).
1. The word swarm is used twice in the text. When this word is used as a verb, it means to place something horizontally.
2. Placing horizontally means simply piling up objects blindly for no purpose, rather than accumulating them as preparations for use in some activity or work.
*The cork says that the coin is flat to keep it in place, and the prodigal protests that the coin is rounded so that it can roll anywhere.
3. Why is it wrong to hoard?
1) It is absolutely not wrong. However, the purpose of accumulating is only a problem.
2) If a substance is used incorrectly, it is wrong if it is used in a bad place.
3) There is absolutely nothing bad about saving money without spending it. The purpose of the collection is important.
4) And how the wealth was gathered is important.
5) It is all human nature to want to possess. In other words, possessing means accumulating horizontally, and the Bible does not define possession itself as a sin.
6) For all of us, the more our thoughts are awakened, the more we are filled with the Holy Spirit, the stronger our desire for possessions burns in our hearts.
7) The question is what principle do you want to possess based on? Passion without principles burns life. On the other hand, principles without passion dry up life.
B. Be clear about the purpose of collecting wealth.
1. How many misinterpretations of the text are there?
2. It is a beautiful thing to thrift and save in faith for future glory. Principles and passions - you have to balance the two. in faith.
II. Lay up for us treasures in heaven (20).
A. Prepare for tomorrow.
1. The purpose of saving is to prepare for tomorrow.
2. God did not tell us not to unconditionally accumulate. The important thing is not to 'stack it up on the ground'.
3. God wants us to build a future that will last forever, not for a “today that will pass away and pass away.”
to build up for
1) We do not belong to today.
2) Also, they are not of the earth.
3) Those who belong to tomorrow and those who belong to eternity. And you are a child of God.
4) Therefore, if we store our treasures on this earth, we reduce ourselves to poor and pitiful beings.
5) Because they have stored the treasure, but they are of no use. In other words, treasure does not make any spiritual progress for us. More important than treasure is spiritual progress.
6) On the other hand, if we put up treasures where we can make spiritual progress, the situation is completely different.
7) That is, focusing on things that exist today and will be for eternity.
B. Results matter.
1. In Jesus' day, cloth was an important part of wealth. So, the word 'some' was mentioned. Material is moth, but spiritual investment is not at all moth. Therefore, it is saying that the saints should pay attention to the things that moth cannot harm.
2. On the other hand, ‘green rust’ occurred in copper coins.
1) Dongrok refers to the chemical action of rusting metal.
2) Dongrok is like a fire that burns slowly, eventually destroying the entire coin. What belongs to the world is what it is after all.
3. It is said that thieves break through and steal.
4. But if we lay up treasures in heaven,
1) there is not much
2) There is no record
3) There are no thieves.
C. Give up false possessiveness.
1. We all have a passion for possession. Possession itself is never a fault. The question is what are the consequences of owning the year.
2. Anyone who bought Pohang Steel's stock will look closely at the stock section of broadcasts and newspapers from that day. Because they put the treasure there.
1) The person in the Swiss bank will be excited whenever the news about Switzerland comes out. I wondered what to do if I couldn't find it---.
2) If we invest the collected materials in this land, our interest naturally stays in the land. After all, isn't the earth home to hell?
3) If he does missionary work or invests in spiritual good works with the materials he has collected, he will always experience heaven. Although his body is on earth, he belongs to heaven. All of my attention goes to the spiritual place.
D. Matter is like snow (22-23).
1. People's attention and nerves are directed to where the substance is. Also, the eyes are the lamp of the body. In other words, it is a lamp, not a light.
2. Bad eyes cause problems. In other words, when you become possessive, you look at things that will make money. What if you have untrue eyesight?
3. If you become a slave to material greed, it is like a patient with astigmatism. He loses his eyesight judgment and normal perception.
4. His life will be unethical, immoral and inhuman. His life is a course of failure, and there are only harsh words.
5. A man named Ruskin said, "To see wrong is worse than not to see."
III. One cannot serve two masters (24).
A. We have to serve someone.
1. You can serve wealth, or you can serve God. But the two never serve at the same time.
2. If he serves money because he likes money, he reveals to the world that he has betrayed God.
3. To lay up your wealth in heaven for you does not mean to completely cut off ties with the riches of this earth.
1) It is not that we should be indifferent to material and worldly things, but rather that we should not be interested in anything other than our daily bread.
2) What we need is our daily bread.
B. How should I live?
1. Items other than food, clothing, and shelter must be used for the sake of the kingdom of heaven according to the will of the King.
2. Make friends with the riches of unrighteousness, and when they are gone, they will receive you into an eternal dwelling place. After all, we use untagged money. All that money is tainted money. So, isn't it an unrighteous wealth after all?
3. Therefore, let us know that investing in missions other than our daily bread is piling up treasures in heaven.
4. Let's use our wealth to make stray friends. they will welcome us
