Faith based on the word of eternal life (John 6:47-71)
1. What is the meaning of eternal life, and what are the conditions for obtaining eternal life?
⑴ Jesus showed us that he is the provider who satisfies our needs through the miracle of five fish.
(2) Experiencing Jesus as the Savior is “eternal life that comes from faith.” Jesus is the bread of life (verse 48). Eternal life is the life of believing in God's promises and enjoying them.
2. The bread of life that never dies (v. 50).
(1) The bread of life that never dies, the bread that came down from heaven is Jesus Christ. The saved saints only need the bread of eternal life, the spiritual food, as citizens of Canaan.
(2) Jesus died for us on the cross to give us eternal life now (verse 51). Those who eat and drink the flesh and blood of Jesus have the power of resurrection to live again even if they die (verse 54).
3. Jesus is the true food and the true drink (verse 55).
(1) We must eat and drink the flesh and blood of Jesus to live. The flesh of Jesus means the words of eternal life. Therefore, to eat Jesus' flesh means to believe in Jesus' words of eternal life (verse 59). To drink the blood of Jesus means to believe that the blood that Jesus shed on the cross to wash away my sins has washed away my sins. We eat and drink the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ in the communion of the church. Then I know that the Lord is in me (verse 55, John 15:5-6).
(2) God gives life to those who drink the flesh and blood of Christ (verse 57). Therefore, those who eat and drink the flesh and blood of Jesus are born again of water and the Spirit (verse 53). Therefore, those who eat and drink the flesh and blood of Jesus live forever (verse 58).
⑶ Eternal life is the eternal life of Jesus abiding in us. It means fellowship with Jesus (Galatians 2:20). The Christian life is the only way to have true life through union with Jesus.
4. Do you live by the word of eternal life?
(1) We must live in obedience to God's command to conquer the land of Canaan.
(2) In order to find the word that saves my soul, I must go before the throne of God every day.
⑶ Many people live without realizing the true value of life. That is why we toil and labor for rotten food (Isaiah 55:1-3).
The most important problem in life is that of eternal life. Who follows the word of eternal life? A person who has a vision of the land of Canaan. You must have a vision for the land of Canaan to seek the Word of God. Because only the Word of God can save souls and restore the earth. To do this, we must come before the throne of God every day.
