"Waiting Faith"
Psalm 40:1-3
Where is the key to unlocking 2003? It's just persistence. In other words, you need to wait. Even if it is difficult, difficult, there are problems, there is no way, and hope is weak, there must be patience and patience. All history doesn't happen overnight. So, don't give up if you can't do it all at once. Don't be discouraged if there is no answer easily. Noah had to wait 120 years to build the ark, Abraham had to wait 25 years to get a son, Jacob had to wait 20 years to return to his hometown, and Moses had to wait 30 years to become the leader of the nation. Now, I sincerely hope that you too will achieve great works through this faith of waiting.
Today's text teaches us this. David is in a very difficult and helpless situation. The text expresses such a fact as 'I fell into an amazing puddle and bog'.
We also started 2003 with hopes, expectations and dreams, but we may find ourselves in a situation like this. Problems of faith, problems at home, business and work, material and health problems can lead to pitfalls and bogs. What did David do at this time? David was not discouraged, regretful, and frustrated. David raised his head. And I saw God. I prayed with my mouth open and waited and waited. This waiting was not in vain for David. I received an amazing response from God.
So he confesses in verse 1. “I waited for the Lord, I waited, and he gave ear to me and heard my cry.” God heard prayer. Today, I hope that you will be the ones who possess the answers through these acts of faith and prayer.
Now, if we pray and wait like this, what kind of answer will come?
The first answer is to deliver them from pits and swamps.
The first half of verse 2 says: "He brought me up out of the wondrous pits and bogs." The puddle here means tomb, prison, and manure pile, and bog means the bottom of the pit. That's right. If you pray and wait, you will come back to life from a completely finished place like death. Plans crumble and hope seems dim, but new plans and hopes are given to you. It brings us back from the pit of filth and sin to a place of righteousness and cleanliness. So pray and wait.
The second answer builds us up on the rock.
The second half of verse 2 says: “He set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.” The word 'rock' here means 'a broad and strong stone', that is, strength, security, and steadfastness. This is the opposite of the 'swamp' mentioned earlier. If you pray, you will no longer be shaken. And the power comes. Guarded safely. So pray and wait.
The third answer is to give you a new song.
Verse 3 says: “You have put in my mouth a new song, a song of praise to our God; when many will see it, they will fear and trust in the Lord.” The new song here is the song of salvation. It is a song of thanks. It is a song of joy. It is a song of peace. So please pray and wait.
Now let's make a promise again. Even if problems and difficulties come along our way, we will have faith to pray and wait. Clearly, if we wait and wait while praying, like David, I believe that answers, solutions, and works of singing praise will take place. So, I pray in the name of the Lord that you will be all of you who believe in the Word today, do not waver, do not be discouraged, do not give up, and pray and wait.
