Title: Faith Looking at the Prize
Philippians 3:10-14 ‘10. Being conformed to his death, that I might know Christ, and the power of his resurrection, and the sharing in his sufferings, ...
14. I run toward the goal for the reward of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus’ - Amen.
There are some religious and mystic, but usually religious people have ups and downs as a new spiritual culture of life. What is the ultimate goal of Christianity? Hear from the Apostle Paul who runs for the prize.
1. Salvation to eternal life is a perfect grace without reward
Christian salvation concludes that everything is done by the grace of God.
Romans 4:7 “Blessed are those whose iniquity is forgiven and their sins covered” (Psalm 32:1-2).
Matthew 16:17 “… Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 25:34).
Ephesians 2:8 “By grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
2. Blessings from Prayer
Genesis 3: Life after original sin tries to solve suffering through science or religion. However, the Bible guides us to solve it through prayer. You have made it possible to obtain all your needs through prayer as well as eternal life by believing in Jesus.
Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him give us all things?”
John 16:24 “Until now you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, so that your joy may be full” (Matthew 7:7-8).
Of course, he also taught the order of supplication that must be preceded by prayer,
Matthew 6:33 “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
3. The prize of the afterlife is the highest value one has as an owner of eternal life
According to verse 10 of the text, salvation by believing in the resurrection is the core truth of Christianity, but what kind of resurrection you hope for is the reward of the next life (1 Corinthians 15:). Paul worked really hard and busy to fulfill his mission of evangelism. There was no moment in loyalty when it was enough. Text Philippians 3:12(13) “Not that I have already obtained it, nor that it has been perfected, but I am running to seize that for which I was captured by Christ Jesus.”
Even saints, for example, in prayer or fasting, have already received a reward for their pride, so there is no reward in heaven.
Matthew 6:2 ‘…Do not blow the trumpet…to receive glory from men…I tell you the truth, they have received their reward’ (Matthew 6:5, 6:16).
A truly profound believer is eager to hide or share even the blessings of the world as much as possible, or to be used only for the spread of the gospel, and is oriented to the afterlife and does not regard suffering as suffering in order to receive a reward in the eternal kingdom.
Paul said in Philippians 3:14, “I am running toward the goal for the reward of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 8:18 “I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed in us.”
Hebrews 11:35 “…and others were tortured severely, that they might obtain a better resurrection, and did not want to be released.”
