Title: Faith Looking at the Reward
Contents
Chan 341 You will be led by God
The purpose of writing the book of Hebrews was to kill all who believed in Jesus in the Roman times. In the ideology of emperor worship, the Roman emperor was God. This is a letter of consolation by the believers who converted from Judaism to Christianity by refuting the superiority of Christianity to the unbelievers who are about to abandon Jesus and return to Judaism because of persecution in Rome. Chapter 11 of those letters is the faith chapter.
If you believe in Jesus and face hardships, will you leave Jesus and go to the world? Or would you rather live with the faith that you will not apostate, not apostate, not betray, and even martyr for Jesus to the end, even if it means giving up your poor life?
Moses, who appears in today's text, is testifying to us what kind of faith he lived. Moses is the most outstanding prophet and spiritual leader among the Jews. Why did Moses live with <faith looking at the reward>? There are three things Moses rejected in today's text. What did you reject?
1) He refused the honor of the world.
By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's princess (Hebrews 11:24).
In Exodus 2:5, Moses, the daughter of Pharaoh's daughter, went into the Nile River to bathe, and took him out of a box among the reeds, and raised him as his own son.
Acts 7:20 Then Moses was born, and he was beautiful in the sight of God, and he was raised in his father's house for three months.
Acts 7:21 After they had abandoned him, Pharaoh's daughter took him and raised him as her own son.
Acts 7:22 And Moses learned all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was able to speak and act.
? Growing up as a prince for 40 years, he learned all the sciences of Egypt. Deacon Stephen testifies that he was able to speak and act. He has completed his studies as kings in politics, military science, government, tactics, economics, all fields. However, Moses must have always been educated about his identity while breastfeeding and growing up in the arms of his mother, Jochebed. “Moses, your homeland is not Egypt, it is Jewish Israel, your mother is me, and we must save the oppressed and tormented homeland of Israel...”
That is why he refused the honor of the world.
2) They rejected the pleasures of sin.
Rather, they prefer to suffer with God's people than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a while (Hebrews 11:25)
? If you lived as a prince in Egypt, how much wealth and glory would you enjoy? Isn't the goal of the world to be favorable and to live well? But he preferred to suffer with God's people. He refused to enjoy the pleasures of sin. Because God was in his heart. Because Jesus was in his heart. I knew that the pleasures of the flesh are enmity with God. So they rejected the pleasures of sin.
3) They rejected the treasures of Egypt.
Reproach for the sake of Christ was regarded as greater riches than all the treasures of Egypt, for they looked to the reward (Hebrews 11:26).
In 1 Corinthians 10:4, Paul mentions the Exodus event and records, 'They all drank the same spiritual drink, and drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ.'
After all, because Christ is the one who walks with God's people, Moses' 'suffering with God's people' (verse 25) was the same as suffering for Christ's sake.
For Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Jesus transcends time. He was with God's people in the Old Testament times.
So Moses could be humiliated for Christ's sake. What is insult [凌辱/陵辱]?
It is to look down on others and humiliate them. It's insulting by raping a woman.
Moses was despised and dishonored for the sake of Jesus Christ. While tending sheep in Midian, they were dishonored by their circumstances and status. I was insulted by Pharaoh.
Their reproach was regarded as greater riches than all the treasures of Egypt, because they looked for a reward (Hebrews 11:26).
? ① Jesus is the hidden treasure
Matthew 13:44 The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field; when a man finds it, he hides it, and rejoices, he goes back and sold all that he had and bought the field.
② Jesus is the Pearl of Great Price
Matthew 13:45 And the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls.
Matthew 13:46 When he found a pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.
③ We have this treasure in earthenware.
2 Corinthians 4:7 We have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that it may be known that the exceeding greatness of power belongs to God and not to us.
④ Therefore, even if we are faced with these kinds of things, we can overcome them by thinking of the cross.
2 Corinthians 4:8 We are afflicted on every side, but we are not troubled; we are perplexed, but not discouraged;
2 Corinthians 4:9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; overthrown, but not destroyed
2 Corinthians 4:10 We always carry in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
? Because of that, Moses, looking forward to receiving the reward (salvation) in the eternal kingdom of heaven with faith, left without any regrets the treasures of Egypt that would be lost after enjoying it for a while. Because he looked to Jesus, the rewarder.
? The “reward” here means misqapodosiva (3405, Mizda podosia) compensation, recompense.
The noun misda podosia is derived from misqov (3408) and ajpodivdwmi (591), meaning 'the payment of wages, remuneration, compensation'.
Hebrews 10:35 Therefore, do not forsake your courage, for this has a great reward.
Heb 10:36 You need patience, so that after you have done the will of God you may receive the promise.
This award refers to the “award to enter the kingdom of heaven” by receiving “salvation of souls.” The biggest prize among the prizes is the ‘Soul Salvation Award’. For that reason, Moses rejected the honor of the world. rejected the day of sin. rejected the treasures of Egypt.
The noblest wisdom is to believe in Jesus. It is to believe in Jesus and be saved. It is to believe in Jesus and be saved, and to live with the Lord forever in heaven. That is the biggest of the awards. I looked at it with the eyes of faith. Reproach for Christ's sake was regarded as greater riches than all the treasures of Egypt, for they looked to the reward (Hebrews 11:26).
? apply
1) What do we like more? Do you prefer the treasures of Egypt (this world)?
Even if you are insulted, despised, despised, and persecuted because you believe in Jesus, do you consider it a great wealth?
2) Do you prefer to suffer as God's people? Or do you prefer to enjoy the days of sin?
3) Jesus says that we have a reward to give.
Revelation 22:12 Behold, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me, to give to each one according to what he has done.
<Conclusion>
Believing in Jesus does not mean looking at the rewards of this earth. Of course, if you seek his kingdom and righteousness first, don't worry about food, clothing, and shelter. He promises that I will solve it.
But first of all, my soul is saved. My family will be saved. My neighbors and my relatives will be saved. Moses chose this. That is why God's suffering people were saved from Egypt.
Dear saints, I hope that you will not betray Jesus like the Jews did because of suffering in the world. I hope that you will not deny Jesus and apostate because it is difficult to believe in Jesus. If you pray, the Holy Spirit will give you new strength. I bless you in the name of Jesus that you will only look to Jesus who saves souls, Jesus the rewarder.(*)
