Title: Faith of Abraham / Hebrews 11:8-10

Contents Abraham's faith/Hebrews 11:8-10

Proposition: The example of spiritual faith is the answer to calling.

Purpose: To receive lessons on faith and calling

Introduction: Among the many forebears of faith in the Bible, the person who became the father of faith was Abraham. What are the characteristics of his faith? I want to learn that lesson.

1. Faith according to the divine vocation (v. 8)

A. What is a calling? (Calling)

1. Outward vocation - God wants all people to be saved (2 Peter 3:9).

Everyone is called. (Matthew 22:14, Luke 14:17-18)

2. Inner vocation - to be saved in response to the call

(Matthew - Luke 5:27-28, Zacchaeus - Luke 19:5-6, Saul - Acts 9:4-5)

3. Those who have this kind of faith are called the descendants of Abraham. (Galatians 3:7,29, etc.)

B. Abraham's Call

1. Abraham was also a man from an ordinary idolatrous family. (Joshua 24:2)

2. I met God and was called. (Acts 7:2)

3. He obeyed the call (Genesis 12:1, Hebrews 11:8).

C. Content of the Call

1. Leave the mainland - let go of the old state.

Those who have met the Lord must give up their old life and live a new life (Romans 6:6).

2. Leave your relatives - Cut off the relationship you depended on (Genesis 11:31, 12:1, 13:14).

3. Are we responding to the Lord's call?

2. Faith looking to heaven - Promise (verse 9)

A. Abraham lived a tent life.

1. He had money, but he did not buy land or prepare a house (Gen. 13:2).

2. I always lived as a foreigner and a stranger (Hebrews 11:13-16)

B. I firmly believed in the promises of heaven.

1. I lived hoping for the city of God (verse 10).

2. I lived longing for my hometown (verse 16).

3. He lived by building altars wherever he went.

C. Where are our goals in life?

1. Do you believe in the promises of heaven and have certain hopes?

2. Are you living in a tabernacle?

3. Do you live by looking at the things above?

Conclusion: As Abraham's descendants who imitated Abraham's faith, let us obey our calling and live our lives looking forward to the promise of heaven.
