Title: Faith of Waiting (Lamentations 3:19)

faith in waiting

Lamentations 3:19-29

It is now a classic, but there is a play called [Samuel Beckett] written by a man. It has been performed several times in Korea and is still being performed today. The characters are waiting for a character named Hana-raeol, but Godot is set as a character who does not come no matter how much he waits. Still, he is waiting for the play to end with the expectation that “Godot will come tomorrow.” This play probably does not value who Godot is, but rather the act of waiting for Godot. In a world where nothing is decided until the altitude is reached, and the future is uncertain, the figure of the characters repeating ridiculous things while spending time anxiously and meaninglessly Works. Some say that in that sense, it does not symbolize the Absolute.

It is believed to be a metaphor for many people's lives, living empty, meaningless, and unaware of what awaits them.

Humans are inherently incapable of being alone. So I live waiting for someone. Sometimes, even if the wait is a vague wait, we live waiting for something. Have you ever waited for someone for a long time? How do you feel when you wait? Waiting for someone, missing someone, and loving someone is a beautiful thing. If you look closely, life is a wait. Waiting for tomorrow, waiting for meeting, waiting for death, waiting for heaven. In the waiting, hope is nurtured, and in the waiting, suffering and persevering, expecting something and living.

On the other hand, waiting is a very important spirituality from a religious standpoint. In fact, when waiting is peaceful, it can be romantic or it can be a tolerable beauty. But waiting in pain, waiting in despair is not so easy. However, a believer is someone who knows how to wait even in joy, but he must be accustomed to waiting even more in hardship. If we look at the nation of Israel chosen by God, yes. If you look at the history of the nation of Israel, it was in a nutshell. They faced countless invasions, and even in the difficult circumstances of life, they lived only waiting for the Messiah predicted by the prophets. During the captivity, I was sad and frustrated, thinking about everything negatively, and was in the midst of discouragement. The people of God who appeared at this time were the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah. They foretold a new future by foretelling the Messiah who would appear in the midst of constant waiting. A believer is a person who lives without despair under any circumstances.

This is the age in which everything has collapsed. It is sad that hope is gone. Morals and ethics are being mercilessly broken. The patriots of the times lament where the country is going. What should we wait for at this time? Where should we put our hope in a reality like despair?

I see waiting in two ways. One is that most people do, but when trouble comes, they just sit down and face it. This is called That is. But another is the patience required in God. That is what [Abraham] showed. When God gave us the command to sacrifice Isaac, we did not just sit and weep in despair over this pain, but actively persevere and move forward toward God. This could be what active waiting looks like. We are all waiting people. However, they should not be people who live a life of giving up sitting and waiting, but people who actively wait for God while living their faith. Today, like Jeremiah, we can see God's fruits when we actively wait for God and wait for Him.

Our faith does not end in despair. To see a greater and more beautiful world of hope. Some people are pessimistic and frustrated with their own fortunes and fate. Some people despair because of their natural appearance and appearance. Some people despair because of their parents, home environment, or the country where they were born. Some people despair at the thought of their devastating failure. And some people despair because they see people instead of God. How long will you live in despair like this?

Tomorrow is Christmas Day. What should our attitude be as we wait for this Christmas, when Jesus Christ came and gave us hope in our lives that were like darkness and our lives that were like a barren field? Even if we are frustrated until today, the Lord will come tomorrow.

Dear saints!

What is your motive for waiting? The meaningless things, the things that will perish, are things that can't really change our lives or save us from despair. It is also wrong to look ahead vaguely based on one's desires, one's dreams and fantasies. The motive for our waiting must be God. Now that you have stood with an active waiting attitude, I hope you will meet the Lord who will come and live a hopeful life.
