Title: Jesus' Happiness Theory (7)

Text: Matthew 5:9

Date: 2012. 7. 1. Sunday Day Worship

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God."

Status of the Korean Church at the Time of the March 1st Movement / At the time of the March 1st Movement, the total population of Korea was about 20 million. Among them, 250,000 (1.2%) were Christians. However, they showed leadership leading the 3.1 movement. Immediately after the March 1st Movement (1919.4.30), a report was published at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Christian Federation of America. It was a report titled "Korean Christians" by a missionary working in Korea.

"Korean Christians are now exerting influence over the entire country. At this point, those who are well versed in the international situation and are determined to hold the torch of national self-determination... People with an open mind... The only class who did not give up hope until the very end. people of."

The eight blessings Jesus spoke of are focused on the eternal kingdom. It also focuses on life that shows the image of God in the world. Such a life can be called a communal life. The world doesn't call it a blessing to live like this. But living like this is a life that is beneficial to all and a life that can be happy together. Today, let's take some time to think about the 'seventh happiness' that Jesus spoke of.

1. Who is truly happy?

Jesus said that "the peacemakers" are the happy ones (Matt. 5:9). Here, peace (ε ρ νη, Eirene) means personal well-being or peace between nations, but fundamentally means ultimate peace resulting from the restoration of the relationship between God and humans. This ultimate peace is possible in Jesus Christ. This is because God sent Jesus Christ as a propitiation sacrifice to restore the relationship broken by sin. God was willing to do things of peace. It is said that those who have such a God as their Father and who make peace are blessed.

First, we must be reconciled with God. How can I be reconciled to God? God wanted to be reconciled first, so He sent Jesus Christ as a propitiation sacrifice. This is like a handshake of reconciliation to sinners. We must first hold the hand that God has reached out. Recognizing that we are sinners who have rebelled against God and accepting Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord is the way to hold God's hand in reconciliation.

Having been reconciled to God, we must help the world to be reconciled to God. How can I put this into practice? It's about telling them what we believe in Jesus.

We must not only preach the gospel, but also be instruments of peace in the world we live in. This is a way to show who God is. Churches and Christians must ultimately reveal God and his eternal kingdom. Just as a mirror reflects the sun, we must reflect God in our personality and thoughts to reflect the world.

Peace is more important than work, and God's will is more important than peace.

1 Corinthians 14:33, "God is not a God of disorder, but a God of peace..." This text deals with 'order' and 'peace' in the same context. Peace refers to the state in which God's order of government has been restored. We can enjoy peace by acknowledging God's lordship and submitting to Him. The peacemakers are those who follow the wisdom of heaven. James 3:17-18, "But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, tolerant, docile, full of mercy and good fruit, without prejudice and deceit; peacemakers are peaceable. It is sown and reaps the fruit of righteousness. Romans 12:18, "As far as possible, be at peace with all men."

2. What blessings do the peacemakers receive?

Jesus promised that the peacemakers will be called sons of God. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God” (Matthew 5:9). Looking at the New Translation of the Bible, the meaning becomes clearer. "Blessed are the peacemakers. God will call them His children." It means that God recognizes those who live in peace as His children.

Colossians 1:19-20, "The Father made all fullness dwell in Jesus, making peace through the blood of his cross, for it was pleasing to all things, things on earth and things in heaven, through him to be reconciled to himself. " God Himself wanted to restore our relationship with the sinners of the world. Jesus Christ was first offered as a propitiation sacrifice to restore the relationship (Romans 3:25). The Bible introduces such a God as "the God of peace" (Romans 15:33).

The God of peace wants to be known to the world through our lives. He wants it to be known that He wants to be reconciled to sinners. He wants it to be known that He Himself sent Jesus Christ as a propitiation sacrifice for reconciliation. You want to tell us through us, not ourselves. God wants to be known through our character and life, not just through our lips. When we reveal a God of peace in our lives, He acknowledges, “You are my child who resembles me.” Commentary Hokma wrote, "(The Son of God?) refers to the heirs of heaven who reflect the nature of the Father in Heaven." As John A. Broadus (19th-century Baptist theologian and professor of Sudden Baptist Theology) said, "There is nothing more like God in the world than peacemaking." Blessed are those who show what God is like through their peaceful nature and life.
