Faith without lies (2 Timothy 1:3-8)
Timothy's faith in today's text can be said to be the faith passed down from Timothy's grandmother Lois and mother Eunice. Let's read verse 5 together. “Because you think that you have faith that is not lying within you, which first was in your maternal grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced that it is also in you. Amen.
Beloved saints, Timothy's mother passed on to her beloved Timothy faith, that is, faith without lies. We, too, must pass down the unfalsified faith as a legacy of faith to our descendants.
In the English Bible, faith without lies is called ‘sincere faith’. The word sincere here means not waxed. If the jar is broken, stick it on and melt the candle on top of it to make it look nice. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ; So people buy the broken parts without realizing that they have been waxed with candles. Then one day, when something hot touches it, the candle melts and the pot leaks. Selling something that is broken as if it was not broken. I mean, this is false. So to say there is no lie means to be honest. Faith without lies is an honest faith. The Christian spirit is honesty. However, the faith of those who deceive others and deceive God is false faith. Is your belief really honest? Or is it a false belief, a false belief? May all of you prove that your faith is real faith with honesty and good deeds. So, what should we do to have faith without lies?
First, in order to have an unfaltering faith, one must have a clean conscience.
In verse 3, there is the word of a pure conscience, and to be clean means to be pure, pure, and pure. A pure conscience is a heart that hates sin and turns away from it. Of such a spirit, our Lord said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven; blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." That's right. Our hearts must be cleansed by the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, and prayer.
Second, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit in order to have faith without falsehood.
In verse 6, it is written, “I will rekindle the gift of God that is within you by the laying on of my hands….” The way to rekindle the gift of God was the laying on of hands, which is the way to be filled with the Holy Spirit. That's right. In order to do God's work, not to be ashamed of the gospel, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit. Only then can we have faith without lies.
Third, faith without lies is a faith that suffers for the sake of the gospel.
In verse 8, it is written, “Suffering for the gospel according to the power of God.” For the Lord, there are times when it is difficult and difficult to preach the gospel. If you live honestly in this harsh world, there are times when you will be harmed. However, only when we take comfort in our faith in God and go forth honestly and toward that heavenly nature, that faith is an honest faith, a faith that does not lie.
