Title: Fall of Babylon / (Isaiah 47:1-15)
Isaiah points out four reasons for the fall of Babylon. We must find the lessons God gives us through the destruction of Babylon.
1. Babylon was steeped in luxury and pleasure
2. Babylon was a model of pride and cruelty
3.Babylon worshiped a ghostly superstition
Babylon, with carelessness and pride, bluffed out to surpass Jehovah God (Zep 2:15), and was arrogant, thinking that nothing would be lost. Moreover, he was cruel and tyrannical towards the weak. But they lost everything in one day. She became a widow and lost her children. Above all, their wisdom and knowledge led them to the folly of their own deception (v. 10). They tried to avoid disasters with countless witchcraft (magic) and many spells (talismans, plots), but all these were in vain (verse 9). Those who do not believe in God and follow superstitions are those who oppose God. Those who teach superstition will perish like stubble. Foreigners who came to Babylon and traded will go to their respective destinations, and Babylon will become a ruin.
I will conclude
(1) A time will come when those who are proud in a high position will be disciplined by God and be extremely humbled (verses 1-5).
Therefore, we must quickly descend to the lower places before receiving God's chastisement.
(2) The cruel person who punishes God's people excessively will himself be punished (v. 6).
A person who despises or insults his brother will be punished in the same way.
(3) A person who knows that there is no one other than himself and that he is the security of his own self is the one who unknowingly regards himself as God. Such an extremely arrogant person is punished by God and suffers from unfortunate things that are contrary to their own thoughts (verses 8, 9).
(4) Wicked people depend on the evil they do to make things better. This is as folly as taking sickness and hoping for health (verse 10).
