How will you be filial? - Mother's Day
Text/ Deuteronomy 5:16, Ephesians 6:1-3
1. Introduction
It's Father's Day. The meaning of Mother's Day is changing as much as Children's Day. In the past, on Mother's Day and Mother's Day, it was a way of remembering the poor parents who worked hard for their children and remembering the filial piety they had forgotten. Rather, tell your children, “Regardless of filial piety, don’t reach out to your parents and do your best!” There seem to be more parents who do (this is purely my personal subjective opinion as I look at the families of the people around me. I admit that there are many cases where this isn't the case).
Today, we live in a social system and culture that has changed from an agricultural society to an industrial society, from an industrial society to an information society, and to radical capitalism. A typical example is the change in the family system. The extended family system is gone, and the nuclear family has come. According to a recent survey of people's consciousness conducted by the Chosun Ilbo, if it is an adult word, even if it does not make sense, 25.6% should follow it. If they love, they will marry even if their parents oppose 62.8%, if they disagree, they will not marry 15.9%, don't know 21.3%. 32.6% in favor of premarital sex, 45.0% against, 22.4% do not know. If you count as “I don’t know”, even a smiling adult can tell you the truth, 74.4%. I would get married even if my parents objected 84.1%. 55% will have sex before marriage (The Chosun Ilbo, 2002.5.2.Thursday, page 8). The values in the age of the extended family system and the values in the age of the nuclear family have changed in this way.
The relationship between parents and children has also changed a lot. The custom that children take care of their parents is becoming increasingly blurred. As a result, parents these days are obsessed with having to deal with their own retirement problems, such as postponing property inheritance, setting aside property, and taking out old-age insurance. It's not because they don't trust their children, but because the social atmosphere is driving them that way. As the values of social institutions and family relationships are fundamentally broken, parents and children alike are confused and anxious.
2. Is it filial piety? Is it insurance?
A relationship of true love between a young parent and a young child. However, after parents grow old and their children grow up to form a nuclear family, a strange tension between parents and children is formed that is difficult to name whether it is love, filial piety, insurance, give or take. When there is even a miscarriage, it is common to see around us that the tension is even higher. No right?
3. The more confused you are, the more you need to realize why the fifth commandment was given.
The Ten Commandments are the commandments of God who revealed the relationship between the three peoples of heaven and earth. The 1st and 3rd commandments are the commandments to be kept between God and man, the 4th commandment is to be kept between man and nature, and the 5th to 10th commandments are the commandments to be kept between man and man.
There is a lighthouse on the beach. Why is there a lighthouse? Lighthouses exist for the safe navigation of ships. Why did you give the commandment? It was given to you for a safe life route. Among the Ten Commandments, there is a commandment, “Children, honor your parents.” However, there is no commandment to <parents, love your children>. Why not?.
There is no need for a lighthouse on a beach where the water is deep, visibility is wide, and there are no reefs. Lighthouses are essential for shallow waters, narrow visibility, and reefs. No matter how the times have changed, the heart of parents for their children is essentially like the sea with deep waters, a wide field of vision, and no reefs. Therefore, God did not build a lighthouse of commandments. However, regardless of east and west, children's hearts toward their parents are like the sea with shallow water, narrow field of view, and many reefs. Therefore, God has built a lighthouse for the fifth commandment.
4. Then how should we honor our parents today?
first. You must be physically respectful. Parents' physical health problems. Parental face maintenance cost and face expansion composition cost. Parents' modern life adaptation education expenses. A broad understanding and tolerance for all the mistakes, smells, meddling,...
second. You have to respect it mentally. No matter how genuine a purebred Jindo dog is, if the owner kicks the dog and treats it, other people will kick it and treat it badly. However, no matter how genuine a purebred mutt is, if the owner sweeps, cleans, and treats the dog with respect, he will treat others with respect. It goes without saying that my parents are proud parents, but even if my parents make many mistakes and are lacking, the status of my parents will change depending on how I respect them. Take the case of the three sons of their drunken father, Noah.
third. You must honor it spiritually. Pray for the clearing of the parents' spiritual condition. Children live in the truth (3 John 1:4). Help me to die in great faith.
fourth. Even after you die, you should respect them. Well maintained by the nanny. The inheritance (the landmark) received from the parents was well preserved and passed on (Proverbs 22:28). Hear God's promise. Honor your father and mother, so that you may prosper and your life may be long. Hallelujah!
