How to overcome the midlife crisis?

Psalm 102:1-11

We all go through the middle age when we are in our 40s or 50s in our lifetime. Most notable during that period are the physical changes. It is a time when you are fighting adult diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure, and it is a time when you start to feel your physical limitations. It is also the period when we feel the closest to death. Middle age is the period when the greatest number of failures from parents, relatives, or friends occur. Every time I say, 'Oh! Death is not far away!’

The next crisis is a social crisis. It is also a time when young juniors in their 20s and 30s come and go, and as a result, their social position is in jeopardy. Conflicts between superiors and subordinates and between parents and children lead to confusion in their identity. In verse 9, “I drank water mixed with tears” is an expression of feeling anxious and empty as a family head.

The transformation of emptiness into fear is called “empty nest syndrome.” My wife and children are with me, but it feels like they are not there! It makes you feel lonely. In verses 6 and 7, this loneliness is expressed as a bird. You can feel the heart of the psalmist expressing his loneliness to the birds. That sense of emptiness and loneliness followed by a sense of loss!! “What have I been living for?” Some people fall into ‘temptation’ to resolve this unfair feeling. The middle-aged period in which hope and hope are lost.

The church should help this middle-aged man to live his own self-esteem and live a second life. And people in this situation should also turn the crisis into a turning point in their lives. To do that, first, you need to have a clear purpose in life. It should be clear, ‘What am I living for and how should I live?’ Those who believe in Jesus and are saved must set their goals in life to God.

The second is to make a living doing a lot of rewarding work. People with short-sighted goals soon fall into a sense of loss. Do what makes you happy. The real happiness in life is when you feel the joy of helping someone who is more difficult than you. Sometimes we see people who are poor but donate all their wealth they have accumulated throughout their lives. It is important to do incorruptible work among valuable works like these. Our church serves meals for the homeless every Saturday. Start serving those people right now. And let's look at them with the mind of Christ. We want each of us to become Christians who practice the gifts we have received.

Be grateful always and under any circumstances. Being able to rejoice and give thanks at all times like this is a privilege that only believers can enjoy. I hope you will become the saints who meet God who always helps me behind my back when I am tired and struggling in life.
