Title: I Believe/Job 19:25-26
Content I believe / Job 19:25-26
“I know that my Redeemer lives, and at last he will stand upon the earth” (Job 19:25-26).
There are people who have lost their loved ones and are drowning in skepticism in sorrow and despair. What if you could just ask that person to pray without any other words of comfort? Instead of praying, the person will probably express great anger. I'm doubting my faith right now, but I'm wondering if I can just pray. So, is that suspicion wrong? Does that doubt make you lose your faith?
Some scholars have argued that moderate doubts can be, but serious doubts can ultimately lead to deeper beliefs. Job, who was a righteous man in the East, suffers from the death of his ten children, loss of wealth, and physical illness in one day. Job doubts and resents God all too naturally. At that time, Job was no longer a hero of faith in the eyes of his friends. But in the end, Job overcame all trials and cried out like a hero of faith. “I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last, and after my skin has been skinned, I will see God from the outside.”
As such, the writers of Job, Ecclesiasts, and Psalms sometimes doubted the existence of God and fell into skepticism. However, God did not reject human doubts and petitions, but understood and accepted them. Jesus also said that it is not easy to keep the faith in the midst of tribulation. So, instead of rebuking those who were suspicious and trying to leave, he comforted them. Jesus did not condemn Thomas for doubting the resurrection. Rather, he resolved doubts by showing the nail marks and intestine marks on his hands and sides. Jesus wanted his disciples to overcome their doubts and come to firm faith.
It's a life you can't live twice. If possible, believe in God, but believe properly. If we truly believe in the living God, we should invite and entrust God to intervene in our lives. We must make a sure confession of faith to God. We should make it a habit to thank God for good things and to ask Almighty God for difficult times. Just like Job, who witnessed the existence of God by faith alone, even though he lost everything.
