Title: I Give You My Peace
The mental stress we receive in the IMF situation makes us who possess a sound mind become ill. Makes me crazy. So I have no choice but to stay in a mental hospital. So the whole family suffers together. The peace of mind has long since disappeared.
Families collapse and businesses collapse. How anxious are you? I can't sleep because of anxiety, worry, and worry. Things don't get out of hand. All desire is lost. In this situation, the text of the text is a great comfort to us. becomes strength. I hope you have a chance to stand up again.
1. “The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name” (verses 25-26).
Let's look at verses 25 and 26 of the text.
“I have spoken these words to you while I am still with you, but the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of all that I have said to you.” In this verse, we can think of the following three things.
First, before Jesus died on the cross, He was always with His disciples (verse 25).
Jesus came to this earth and was always with his disciples. And he became a friend to those who were weak, poor, and suffering unfairly. You healed me. You cast out demons. Through many miracles, he showed powers that humans could not even imagine.
In particular, He called His disciples who believed in Jesus and joined them. When he was entrusted with a position, he gave him the power to carry out that position. Especially in John 14, he is giving his last farewell address on this earth. “Do not let your hearts be troubled, believe in God, believe also in me” (14:1).
But the problem is that the time has come for Jesus to leave this world. At that point, just as a father left his last will to his children before his death, Jesus is now giving his final farewell speech.
Second, the Father promised to send the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, in the name of Jesus (verse 26).
When Jesus was with his disciples, there was no problem. But now it was time for Jesus to leave the disciples. Hearing this, the disciples must have been worried.
“What will we do if Jesus, who has always been with us, leaves?” You must have had these kinds of worries and anxieties. So you must have been anxious.
But as I was leaving, Jesus promised that the Father would send a Counselor in my name to watch over and protect the disciples. The Comforter refers to the Holy Spirit. Even if Jesus leaves this earth, He will not leave us as orphans. He promised to protect and protect God's people by sending the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Jesus. I believe that this promise has already been fulfilled for us today.
In the Gospel of John, the ‘Holy Spirit’ is referred to as ‘the Comforter’. The Comforter is called 'parakletos', which is difficult to translate into Korean. In our Revised Bible, it is called ‘Comforter’ using Chinese characters. This means that he is the one who protected us by grace.
However, this ‘parakletos’ is a term used in court. It means a person who alone assumes the role of a prosecutor and a lawyer. For the world, the Holy Spirit, the Prosecutor, condemns their sins according to their sins, and for God's people, He is a merciful one who pleads for forgiveness for their sins.
The gospel ministry of Jesus is that even if Jesus leaves this world, He will send the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Jesus, to continue the gospel ministry of Jesus. That's right. The Holy Spirit is by our side today and helps us to repent of our sins. make you believe in Jesus. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, He will not harm me. We must believe that the Holy Spirit is always with us.
Third, the Holy Spirit teaches all things and brings to mind the Word (verse 26).
Verse 17 says, “He is the Spirit of truth, and the world cannot receive him, because it neither sees him nor knows him, but you know him, because he dwells with you and will be in you.”
The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter, and the Comforter is called the Spirit of Truth. It is said that the world did not receive that Spirit. Rather, the Spirit only has the function of condemnation toward the world. The Holy Spirit is said to “abide with us”. It also says, “He will be in us.” We must believe that the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, resides in our hearts. Those who were together in the spirit and those who were together in the spirit of the world are different.
Romans 8:9 says, “If the Spirit of God dwells in you, you are not in the flesh but in the spirit. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not of Christ.”
He also said that the Holy Spirit reminds us of the words we have already heard. It is said that faith comes by hearing. The Holy Spirit works to hear the word of God. There are many times when we hear the word and lose it. But when we are in trouble, we are reminded of the words we have already heard and are comforted. It is the Holy Spirit who reminded us of the words we had already heard.
2. “My peace I give to you” (verse 27).
Verse 27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.”
First, he gave us peace (27a).
The word for peace here is 'Eirene'. At the time, the term was used to bind two things together. But the Apostle John removes all the worldly meaning of these terms. And then, how we are using it anew is that the feeling of being united with Jesus and us in order to restore our relationship with God is the peace that Jesus gave us.
This ‘peace’ is ‘shalom’ in the Old Testament term. That is, ‘Peace’. “Peace of Shalom” is “peace,” and whoever gives this peace is Jesus. Even after Jesus died on the cross and ascended to heaven, He still gives it to us through the Holy Spirit.
Second, that peace is different from what the world gives (in verse 27).
How does worldly peace come? It comes from material things, from honor, from power. But when these materials, honor, and power disappear, peace disappears. Also, even if you possess such material, honor, and power, there is no real peace. Rather anxious. Those who have power will inevitably suffer more pain and anxieties in order to maintain that power. But the peace that our Lord gives us, the peace that comes through the Holy Spirit, is eternal. It comes regardless of material things, fame, or power.
Third, those who have received the Lord's peace are not sober in their hearts and fearless (v. 27b).
When the peace of the Lord, given through the Holy Spirit, comes upon us, our sorrows in our hearts disappear. Fear disappears. For the peace of the Lord springs up in my heart.
We are living in really difficult times. Meditate on whether God is testing us through this difficult economy. Imagine that you are making sure that you continue to serve God and serve the church even in financial difficulties. How can we be indifferent to the church because it is difficult? Don't be afraid even if it's difficult. If we pass this test well, our Lord will be with us with many blessings.
In the end, the Holy Spirit is with those who believe in Jesus Christ and gives peace that is different from the world. Those who have received that peace are not troubled and not afraid. The world cannot afford it. I pray that this blessing will come to your home, business, workplace, and our church.
3. “If you had loved me, you would have rejoiced in going to my Father” (verse 28).
Look at verse 28, “You have heard it said that I am gone and I am coming to you. We cannot help but rejoice when the peace of the Lord comes upon us. This joy and peace is the fruit of faith. If there is no joy in saying that he believes, it is a sign that he is not accepting Jesus Christ well. How do I know? Because if you believe in Jesus Christ, joy will surely come. So let's see what the source of joy is.
In the Old Testament times, the saints believed in the coming Messiah. This was the faith that was saved by the Old Testament saints. But today, we must not only believe in Jesus who has already come according to the prophecies of the Old Testament, but also believe in Jesus who will come. You must believe in Jesus as the Second Coming Lord.
Here is our joy and joy. With what pleasure will we live in this world? Will you enjoy drinking alcohol? no. We should only rejoice and be thankful that Jesus is coming again in the future. Even though it is painful now, Jesus, who will come as the King of kings, will come as the Judge.
Revelation 22:20 says, “The one who testifies of these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen, come, Lord Jesus.” Amen.
invitation to the word
Jesus told us. “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He also said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me” (John 14:1). He said, “My peace I give to you.” Receive this blessing of peace. No matter how difficult this world is, I hope that you entrust everything to the Lord and live with joy and joy.
