Title: I Made You
Exodus 9:1-35
that i made you
I. the god of the hebrew
1. Hebrew
In the text, God introduces Himself as “the LORD, the God of the Hebrews.” The word ‘Hebrew’ appears only six times in three scenes in Genesis, but it appears very frequently in Exodus. The meaning of the word ‘Hebrew’ is not exact, but there are two claims. One is 'Ivre', which means 'to cross'. Another meaning is 'Abiru', which was a term referring to the lower classes and the poor at the time. In front of Pharaoh, the son of the sun god of the great power of Egypt, God speaks of Himself as “the LORD, the God of the Hebrews.” Before God, all human beings are like orphans and widows. In other words, God's love for orphans and widows means that He cares for all human beings. Likewise, when we say that God is the God of the poor, the weak, the lowly, and the Hebrews, it means that all human beings apart from God are the poor, the weak and the lowly, and that God is the God of all human beings.
2. Reasons to distinguish
Of course, in the text, there is a scene where God separates Egypt from Israel. These distinctions are by no means discriminatory. This is to make known to both Egypt and Israel. This is to make Egypt and Israel know by comparing the roles of the Egyptian gods and the roles of God. God is the God of the Hebrews. That's why you keep the Hebrews. Egypt has many gods. It is said that many gods watch over Egypt. Difficulties arose where the Egyptians lived. why? Because the gods of Egypt couldn't protect Egypt! There are no difficulties in the area where the Hebrews live. why? Because the God of the Hebrews directs it! Who should realize these events and miracles? Both Israel and the Egyptians need to understand. What should I realize? We must realize that only God is the true God. The Egyptians must understand God through the incompetence of their gods. The Israelites need to know God through their protection.
3. Pharaoh's Inspection
4. God's Way
When performing the miracle of turning the Nile into blood, when Pharaoh comes out of the water, he goes before him and performs the miracle, and when performing the miracle of the frog, he performs it in the presence of the king. Pharaoh sees it himself, and the magicians of Egypt do it himself. The third miracle, the miracle of turning dust into lice, is also performed before Pharaoh the king and the magicians. This time, the drunkards can't keep up. Why do you act right in front of the king? To avoid making excuses. In the miracle of the frogs, Moses tells Pharaoh to demand that the frogs go away. Then Moses asks for a point of view. You're asking when the frog will let you go. why? I'm just trying to make sure I didn't back out. It is the king who asks for 'tomorrow' and it is indeed the case. What is? This is not a natural phenomenon, it is to show that ‘it is done according to what God has said’.
II. that i made you
1. Pharaoh's Role
God's purpose was not to kill Pharaoh, nor to defeat Pharaoh. Only one thing is to make Pharaoh come to know God. Pharaoh does not play any role, but is the object of God's revelation. It is not what God is doing through Pharaoh. The fact that God established Pharaoh does not mean that God used Pharaoh for God's work, but that He made Pharaoh the object of God's work. Pharaoh is the object, and actually all work is done by God. God's work is what God does. Pharaoh is not announcing God. Pharaoh is not praising God. All of that is done by God.
2. People's reaction
What God expects of people is that they know that it will only happen according to the word of God, like verse 20. When it comes to hail on a field, it means that it will fall. What do you do when you know that God's word is going to happen? Bringing livestock from the fields into your home. No more. God is not asking people to do anything for God. Make an offering to God, give your possessions to God, build a temple for God, for God, for God. that there is no such thing.
