Title: I Will Begotten a Son

[Dec. 6, 2009 Advent Sermon] I will give birth to a son (Luke 1:26-38)
What is the “great joint” and “adventure”? Is it a season that goes on and on? Advent is the season of waiting for the coming of the Lord. What should we do in this season of welcoming and waiting for the Lord? In the Bible, there are several people who met with the coming of the Lord. They are Anna, Simeon, the shepherds, and the wise men. But above all else, there are people who have met the Lord with certainty. He was none other than Mary, who conceived the Lord in her own body.
Mary is a woman who has received the Lord in her own body. How could Mary receive such a grace? Above all, she was a religiously wonderful woman. After hearing Gabriel's words, she confessed, "I am the maidservant of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your word." These words are not simply uttered emotional confessions. In these words, it was a confession of giving up a life that I decided to face the consequences of great shame, insult, and death.
Also, Mary was a woman who lived a life of purity and chastity as “one who did not know men.” what do you mean? At least when God sends the Messiah, He will not send it through an unclean woman. It is natural to send it to someone who is pure and clean. The truth is that God always uses clean and pure people as His tools.
But before making this confession, Maria had a problem. It was a physiological concern about how a person who doesn't know a man could have a baby, and the social punishment and family shame that would come to him when this happened. It was beyond common sense, and Maria knew better than anyone that it was humanly unacceptable. How did such a Mary come to accept the word of God and make such a deep confession and decision? Here, God gave four levels of words to persuade Mary.
First, by sending an angel named Gabriel, He allowed us to experience the spiritual dimension.
When angels appear, they are always there to help and bless us. Mary, who experienced an angel, has already come to realize that what she is saying to herself is done on a spiritual level, not on a common sense level. Because meeting with an angel itself is a spiritual thing.
Second, it is a message that the Holy Spirit of God will come upon you and that the power of God will overshadow you. When we are completely covered by the power of the Holy Spirit from head to toe, the humanly impossible will become possible. Because of the presence of the Holy Spirit, Abraham obtained Isaac when he was 100 years old. Likewise, the work of the Holy Spirit made Mary believe in the great things that would happen to her.
Third, God used practical signs. God explains the fact that Elizabeth, a relative of Mary, grew old and had a child. By having Elizabeth, who was physiologically unable to give birth, conceived a child, he exemplified on a practical level that the same thing could happen to Mary. The miraculous thing that happened to Elizabeth can happen to you too. For those of us who do not believe because we cannot see, God sometimes allows us to believe through the miraculous testimonies of our close neighbors.
Fourth, definitively, God promises that every word will not fail. With these last words, God made it clear that all the messages He had given to Mary thus far would come true.
Ladies and gentlemen, is Mary a woman of strong faith from the beginning? no. You must know that faith is not something that you will have by believing, but something that God makes you believe.
However, the important thing is that when the word of God was believed, Mary made a great confession of faith and made a decision. In the end, Mary made a confession of faith, saying, “I am the maidservant of the Lord,” and the historical decision, “Thy word may be done to me.” I pray for Mary's confession and determination to all of you who are waiting for the Lord's coming. You will be deeply immersed in God's grace and love. Amen.
