Title: I Will Sing and Praise / Psalm 108
In Psalm 108, a late exile poet quotes David's psalm of thanksgiving (Ps. 57:7-11) to thank and praise God's saving grace, and another David's psalm (Ps 60:5- 12), this is a poem asking for God's salvation.
1. “I have made up my mind; I will sing and praise” (1-5)
"I have made up my mind" (1). The poet made up his mind to thank God and praise God. It is a precious thing indeed. People who can't make up their minds, people who come and go, are unhappy people. “He is a double-minded, undecided in all things” (James 1:8). His determination is to praise God with his heart. And they will sing and praise on the lyre and lyre. His determination was usually not zealous. He is going to praise God with all his zeal by waking the harp and waking up the dawn. "I will wake up the dawn!" And he will not give thanks and praise alone quietly, but will give thanks and praise from all nations and from all nations. What a zealous man indeed! There are many people who cannot make up their minds to pray, praise, and worship God, and there are many people who change their minds easily even after making up their minds.
“For your mercy is great above the heavens” (4). The content and subject of thanksgiving and praise is God's kindness and truthfulness. This poet praised and sang about the mercy and truthfulness of God, which pervades heaven and the universe. and congratulated May the Lord be lifted high above the heavens, and your glory be high above the whole world!
2. "Answer us and save us with your right hand" (6-13)
“Answer us and save us with your right hand” (6). Having experienced God's grace of salvation, the poet once again asked for an answer to prayer and the grace of salvation with greater confidence. Those who have experienced grace pray powerfully. The Lord delivers those whom He loves. He answers the prayers of loved ones to deliver and saves. He saves, but he saves with his right hand. “God spoke in his holiness” (7-9). The poet now remembered the promises God had made to Joshua and pleaded with them to save him and his people. Prayer based on the Word has power.
“Who will bring me into a strong city, and who will bring me to Edom?” (10). These words may express doubts, but they may also express strong convictions. In other words, it is a confession that God is silent for a while now, but it is only God, not man, who can save us. “Who can bring charges against God’s elect” (Romans 8:33). Only God can tread down our enemies and save us. Therefore, the poet trusts in God and acts bravely.
