◎Genesis 1:27 ◎Explanation for Genesis (21)-The image of God
Last time we looked at the fact that human beings are very noble beings that are distinguished from other creatures in that they were created by God's special process and method. Humans are precious beings. Why? It is true that we are precious because God created us through counsel, but more importantly, man is created in “the image of God.”
What is your image (Chelem: Shade)? Shadow. The shadow reflects the original plate as it is. Gentlemen, our original disk is God. This is verse 27.
God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female (1:27).
Everyone! Because we are God's image, God must have a disk similar to us. But what do we find difficult? The point is that God has no form. If God had a face and a body like us, it wouldn't matter, but because God is a spirit, he doesn't have a body like ours.
To say that God is spirit and yet we are made in God's image and likeness implies that there is a special and profound similarity and connection between God who is spirit and us in body. What is 'shape'? A shape is something made similar to the original body. The shape is not the body. However, it is made almost exactly the same as the main body.
The most representative figure is a portrait. In this day and age, you don't see many portraits, but when you were young, most of the houses had portraits.
It is quite difficult for Koreans to draw portraits. Even among the students who are sitting right now, there are some students who will give the painter a very perplexed expression if asked to draw a portrait.^^*. It is said that Koreans find it very difficult to draw portraits compared to Asians. Why? This is because the heights are similar and the features cannot be clearly displayed. Nevertheless, thanks to the artist's excellent drawing skills, it was possible to find portraits painted in most houses anyway. What do we feel when we look at a portrait? Wow, that picture really looks like a human. How can they be the same....
However, no matter how identically drawn portraits are, they are only figures. It is the shape that was drawn as it was after seeing the original appearance. You look just like you, but you're not.
If you look at the coins used in the old Roman times, the king's face is engraved on it. What is engraved on it is the image of the emperor. Of course, the shadow on the coin is not the emperor. But it is a figure resembling an emperor. The great men of Korea are also depicted on Korean banknotes. But likewise, the great men are not real. I mean, it's just a form.
What do you see in common when you go to an elementary school or a park? It is a statue of great men. Of course, the statue itself is not a great man. But the statue was not made haphazardly. It is made to resemble one's face or appearance as a model, and it reminds of the person who became the model, and reminds of the person's achievements or great character.
That's it. According to this analogy, we can discover the image of God. This is because God is using the word ‘image of God’ to mean that we should try to make an analogy like that.
What we need to know clearly is the 'shape'. Humans are beings made out of insignificant dirt. The word ‘man’ (Adam) has the same root as soil (Adamah). What is important is the image of God, not man. We are exalted because we have the image of God in us, a living spirit that breathes life into our noses.
Everyone! Let's look at the next member. Does the image of God appear in the side members? do you see Statues in schools or parks are not made for fashion. Looking at the statue reminds children of their great achievements and imitates them, instilling in them a vision to live a life like that from an early age. The same is true. We, too, were not made by God. If you're stylish, why do you flatten your nose, tear your eyes, and make your face a full moon? People don't matter. The height of the feature is not important. The important thing is that we have the image of God in us. The people of the world must discover the image of God in your appearance. A confession of “Ah~ God is such a person, God works in that person’s image.” That is why God created you in His image.
This is the conclusion of today's sermon.
Do you see the image of God in your appearance? If you look at the next member, do you see the shadow of God that that member reflects? Through us, God illuminates Himself.
