The Lord spoke to Ahaz again. "Ask the Lord your God to show you a sign. Ask him to show you whatever is in the depths of Sheol or in the heights above." Ahaz answered. "No. I will not ask for a sign, nor will I put the Lord to the test." Then Isaiah said: "Listen to the royal family of David. It is not enough for the royal family to test the patience of the people, so should they now test the patience of God? will give birth to a son, and he will call his name Immanuel, amen.
From the Epistles: Colossians 2:6-10
Therefore, since you have accepted Christ Jesus as Lord, live in Him. Be rooted in him, built up in him, and established in the faith as you have been taught, so that your hearts overflow with gratitude. Beware of anyone who will take you as a prey by philosophy or vain deceit. Such is following the traditions of men and the childish principles of the world, not following Christ. All the fullness of divinity resides in Christ as the body. You too have been filled with Him. Christ is the head of all rule and authority. Amen.
Words of the Gospels: Matthew 1:18-23
This is the birth of Jesus Christ. After his mother, Mary, was betrothed to Joseph, before living together, it was revealed that Mary had conceived by the Holy Spirit. Mary's husband, Joseph, was a righteous man, so he did not want to put his fianc e to shame. As Joseph was thinking, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid, and take Mary as your wife. The child in her womb is of the Holy Spirit. Mary will bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will save you from your sins." All this happened to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet, "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel." Immanuel literally means 'God with us'.
