Title: Incomprehensible Love
Contents
※ Main text: 2 Samuel 18:5-15, 24-33
In chapter 18 of 2 Samuel, the love of a father for his children is expressed in every passage. Absalom tried to kill his brother Amnon and rebelled against his father David. In response to his son's sudden rebellion, David went barefoot across the brook of Gideon and hid himself on the Mount of Olives. And reorganize the army to counterattack. In 2 Samuel 18:5, David said to the generals of the army that were going out to recapture Jerusalem, “You must win this war! You must win!” didn't say It just said, “Generals, when you see your son Absalom in battle, look at me and be generous with him! Don't kill him, be kind to him!" Now, when he meets the son who is fighting to kill his father, he asks him to be kind to him even if he sees him.
In 2 Samuel 18:24 we read, we see the image of his father David waiting for the news of war. He sits in the middle of the two doors, buries his head between his knees and waits anxiously for his son. Father David's interest is more in the life and death of his son Absalom than in the victory or defeat of the war. However, Absalom did not live as his father David had hoped. Absalom was riding on a donkey and his head was caught in an oak tree and he died. When David heard this, he wept and went up to the tower and said, “My son Absalom! My son Absalom! I wish you had died in your place” (verse 33). On Mother's Day, we remember our father David, who never forgot his love and forgiveness despite the betrayal and rebellion of his son Absalom. do.
First, it is the love you are looking for.
Absalom left his father David and tried to oppose him and kill him, but David shows the utmost love he is looking for and waiting for his son.
There are three parables of the lost in Luke 15. The first is the parable of the lost sheep. All ninety-nine sheep are important, but to the shepherd, that one sheep is absolutely essential. The second is the parable of the lost silver coin. There are ten silver coins, but one lost silver coin is indispensable to the woman. The third is the parable of the prodigal son. Helmut Tilike commented on this parable, saying that this story is not the story of the prodigal son, but the story of God who has squandered his love, and that it is the story of a father waiting for his son who has left home. In addition, the Bible is filled with the love of a Heavenly Father looking for his lost son.
Second, it is forgiving love.
What kind of love did the father David show for his son Absalom? It is love that forgives. The resurrected Jesus also came to Peter and did not ask, “Why did you deny me three times” (John 25:16), but gave him the mission to tend my sheep and forgave him. Even in the midst of suffering on the cross, Jesus said, “Father, forgive their sins (Luke 23:34)! They do not know what they are doing.” prayed.
To the woman caught at the scene of fornication, “Neither will I ask for your sins. Go and do not commit these sins again” (John 8:11). The Bible is full of tears of forgiveness from beginning to end.
Ladies and gentlemen, our God and our parents raised us by forgiving our transgressions and sins countless times. On this Mother's Day, I hope that you will remember the Father's forgiving love and the forgiving God's love once again.
Third, it is love that lays down one's life.
2 Samuel 18:33 The words strike our hearts. When the father, David, heard the news that his son had died, he went up to the fortress and wept. “My son Absalom! My son Absalom! It would have been better if I had died in your place...” Father David's heart, despite his rebellious son, is that he wants his son to die and his son to live. This is the heart of parents who do not waste their lives for their children. God made us realize the love of God through the sacrificial love of our parents.
The fifth of the ten commandments is the first commandment that humans must keep. “Honor your father and mother, for this is the first commandment with a promise, so that you may prosper and live long on the earth.” The words reverence and reverence used here are not used for people, but for God. But Leviticus 19:3 says, “Every man, fear your father and your mother!” is recorded. If we do not revere our visible parents, we cannot fear the invisible God.
As we celebrate Mother's Day today, I hope that you will realize the love your parents are looking for, the love that forgives, and the love that sacrifices your life to save us, and honor your parents well.
