Title: Intelligence and foolishness / Proverbs 13:16
Intelligence and foolishness (Proverbs 13:16)
2000. 4. 2 Sunday evening sermon (Rev. Joo Doo-man)
There is a saying that 'remorse is like a bear'. There is also a saying that 'weakness is like a fox'. People put out what they build up in their minds. Language is the expression of ideas.
1. A fool's life
1) Showing foolishness (Proverbs 13:16)
As in the parable of Jesus, he is like a person who started building a tower without a budget and then discontinued it midway (Luke 14:28, 30). The word “shown” means to show proudly again what was kept and boasted.
2) deceive (Proverbs 14:8)
This is a case where people deceive themselves that they can see this by deceiving God or people (1 Timothy 3:13). How do you deceive God? How do you think to deceive people! values are different. Look at the values of Esau, where the hallways are full!
3) Inheriting foolishness (Proverbs 14:18)
It means that humans inherit it from their ancestors (1 Peter 1:18). Before anyone is born again by the Holy Spirit, he inherits the ignorance of not knowing God. He makes a living from it and boasts of it. it's the same case Twelve men went to spy out the land of Canaan and saw the same thing, but the reaction was different. Joshua and Caleb have completely different perspectives.
4) Keep your eyes on the ground (Proverbs 17:24)
There are two interpretations. First, a foolish person does not have a certain goal, and because he wanders here and there, he cannot fulfill his request. Second, it means that no matter how much a fool seeks wisdom to the ends of the earth, he cannot find it. Raise your head and look to the sky. Before the Red Sea, Moses saw the sky. this is the way to live
2. Reasons for being stupid
1) Being ignorant (Proverbs 15:21)
"Ignorant" means one who lacks a heart, one who is indifferent. They are indifferent to the Word and have attachment to sin. The Word makes us smart and clears our head. We become foolish when we do not see the Word of God.
2) He did not delight in understanding (Proverbs 18:12)
This means that he has no interest in the wisdom of others, is a proud person, or has no interest in understanding itself. It means living in that good taste. This is what makes you stupid. How much can we learn from plants, microbes and even insects! Instinct wisdom is more of animals than humans. Even if we lack wisdom, we should ask the Father, who does not rebuke us and gives us mercy.
3) Wisdom is too high to fall short (Proverbs 24:7)
It is out of reach of a fool, that he cannot be guided by wisdom, that he has nothing to say when he is swindled, and incapable of answering the questions that are posed to him.
4) Being evil (Proverbs 28:5)
Those who disobey the Lord, those who disobey the law.
3. Consequences of a fool
1) Being disciplined for foolishness (Proverbs 16:22)
Just as wisdom brings a reward to its possessor, so foolishness brings sin to its possessor. The result is God's punishment. There is a saying, 'A mad dog has nothing but a stick.' A fool has nothing but punishment.
2) Only revealing one's own will (Proverbs 18:2)
A fool likes to announce his own intentions and ideals, and he likes to express himself. 'What a reason!' If you think so, you will not be tested. If you live centered on me, it is easy to take exams and misunderstand.
3) He harbors violence and speaks of rubble (Proverbs 24:2)
"Their heart harbors violence" should be translated as 'Their heart seeks destruction'. Studying to destroy others is an extremely evil act, and to associate with such people also means that you are already sympathizing with their evil deeds (2 Corinthians 6:14; Psalm 1:1; 29:3). "Wreckage" refers to lies, slander, gossip, evil thoughts.
4) Unable to open mouth at the gates (Proverbs 24:7)
The city gate is the place of judgment, and such a fool will be silent and have nothing to say about the judgment of the court (Matthew 25: 22:11-13).
5) cut off his feet (Proverbs 26:6)
To entrust a fool with an important mission is to prevent him from doing what is right.
6) Repeating regrets like a dog eating vomit (Proverbs 26:11)
A fool repeats his foolish behavior over and over again. There is a saying, 'I can't give my dog a habit' and 'I can't give my dog a habit of three years old. You have to take good care of the quality. We need to remember the words 'a family with a skeleton' and 'a family with a family'.
7) Failure to understand justice (Proverbs 28:5)
The moral concept of the wicked is not satisfactory. It is impossible to distinguish between good and evil. Therefore, the light within it is also dimmed. This is the state of being blind (John 12:39-40).
4. The life of a wise man
1) Act with knowledge (Proverbs 13:16)
It is the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:7), it is an act according to the words of the Bible, and it is an act of careful consideration in every case. We must abandon the foolish things and seek the intelligent things of heaven. It is necessary to abandon the life of a slug and live a life of a cicada.
2) Knowing your way (Proverbs 14:8)
Being intelligent is in front of God, and in the presence of people, and even in oneself, one can clearly know what is sexual conduct. He goes out and knows the impact.
3) Crowned with knowledge (Proverbs 14:18)
Wisdom and knowledge are likened to a crown, which is a symbol of rewards and honors, in the sense that they are as precious to intellectuals as honors and rewards.
4) To straighten the way (Proverbs 15:21)
A person of understanding obeys God's Word by living a neat, honest, and ordinance life. This kind of life gives me pleasure.
5) One who has a good mouth and adds to the learning of others (Proverbs 16:21)
“He who has a good mouth” should be translated as “sweet lips.” In other words, the word 'the wise in heart' means gracious.
5. How to be intelligent
1) Wisdom must remain in the heart (Proverbs 14:33)
A wise man never divulges or displays his wisdom. It is kept quietly hidden until the time to use it effectively (Prov. 10:14; 12:23). Wisdom comes when something suddenly happens.
2) Be wise in heart (Proverbs 16:21)
It is not theoretical wisdom, but practical wisdom. Those who are wise in real life do not only speak in words but do them in their fear of God.
3) Seek knowledge (Proverbs 18:15)
A man of wisdom not only longs for the truth, not only his heart, but his ears are always tense and long for wisdom.
4) Seek Jehovah (Proverbs 28:5)
If we seek God's will and seek God through prayer, those who seek what is morally reasonable in all circumstances will make a proper judgment in everything (Ecclesiastes 8:5, 1 Corinthians 2:15). It should be a life that makes Jesus laugh. Does this make God laugh?, Does it benefit the church? should always be looked at. Don't put off God's work until tomorrow!
6. Consequences of the wise
1) Understanding becomes a fountain of life (Proverbs 16:22)
Clear wisdom not only brings good fortune to others, but also becomes a fountain of life for oneself. It is said that the lips of the righteous are the source of life (Prov. 10:11), the ordinances of intellectuals are the source of life (Prov. 13:14), and the fear of the Lord is the source of life (Prov. 14:27).
2) Wisdom is ahead (Proverbs 17:24)
Wisdom is very near to those who have understanding.
3) Acquiring knowledge (Proverbs 18:15)
"The discerning one" refers to one who knows the preciousness of wisdom and seeks it. You must do this in gaining the wisdom of the world, but even more so in gaining the knowledge of God. You should always have a relationship with your seniors. You should have a good relationship with a good professor. Only then can you elevate your level.
4) Build and make the house strong (Proverbs 24:3)
Some people are truly pious but not very vigorous. The reason is that although they are pious, they lack wisdom in real life. It is also because some people have wisdom in real life, but lack trust in God. We must trust in God and have practical wisdom for new life.
5) material abundance (Proverbs 24:4)
It brings blessings of material and spiritual treasures (James 3:17-18). Abundant blessings come to right faith. First is belief, second is material. This order must not be changed.
6) Strengthening and increasing strength (Proverbs 24:5)
It is the name of standing on a solid foundation (Psalm 84:7, Isaiah 40:31, Col 1:12). "Strong" means in power and refers to the state of being full of power. Like a rock, it is said to be unshakable.
7) Knowing all things (Proverbs 28:5)
1 John 2:20 says, "You are anointed by the Holy One, and you know all things." He said the same thing in John 7:17, “If anyone would do the will of God, he will know whether this doctrine is from God, or I am speaking on my own.”
