Title: It's Good to Wait Quietly

Lamentations 3:19-39 It is good to wait quietly Topic:46. hope. 2008. 10. 5.

Introduction: The Prophet, who poured out vivid parables and lamentations about the wretched feelings of the destruction of Jerusalem, gives hope for the future restoration.

is indicating

If you look at the current situation, it is so desperate that you cannot have any hope, but when you turn to God's mercy and compassion, hope springs up from the depths of your heart. The text describes five hopes for restoration.

1. God's mercy and mercy are endless (19-23)

One). Despair: Appeals to God to remember the suffering you have suffered.(19~20)

2). Hope: I turned my eyes away from reality, meditated deeply on God, and found a new hope.(21)

Jeremiah overcame despair and had hope because “God’s mercy and mercy are endless” (22).

Judah was subjected to God's terrible wrath and judgment and was scattered among the nations, but they recognized that this was not God's last providence for Judah.

* It is the fact that the day will come when God still holds the judgment of Judah and will show His infinite love and mercy.

This is because the judgment of the chosen Judas was not intended to exterminate, but to enlighten and purify and restore those who could not get out of their sins. (Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 1:9, 2:1-2; Psalm 78:38, 86:15; Jer 12:15; Lamentations 3:22,32; Hos 11:4; Joel 2:13)

3). Hymn: Because of God's kindness and mercy, we gain new confidence. (23)

Just as manna was supplied to Israel daily in the wilderness, kindness and mercy will grant new favors to the chosen people every day.

(Deuteronomy 7:9; Numbers 23:19; Psalm 89:33-37; 1 Kings 8:5-6; .............. )

2. Doing good to those who wait (24-26)

1) Commitment: Commit to put all your hopes in God (24)

Realizing that God's love and mercy are infinite, the prophet Jeremiah decides to put all his hope in God. “It has come to my heart” means that you have made a firm commitment to yourself.

2) Confidence: We are confident that we do good to those who wait or seek. (25)

Since God is the inheritance of Israel, the Prophet was convinced that good works would surely come to pass if he hoped and depended on him until the end.

3) The work of the prophet: “It is good that one waits in silence for the salvation of the Lord” (26)

“Waiting for God” refers to waiting for God’s time with quiet patience with the basis of all hopes in Him alone. (Psalm 28:7, 33:20, 40:7, 42:5, 46:1, 63:7, 70:5, 94:17, 115:9, ....Isa 30:7; Lament 41: 7)

3. Never Forsaken (27-32)

Jeremiah with hope sees the suffering (destruction) of the people of Judah from a new perspective.

One). I realized the benefits of suffering. (27-28)

It is a good thing for a person to bear a yoke when they are young, so you have to be patient with it.

“By a yoke” means to bear hardships and give thanks.

2). Submit to God's will (29)

“Your mouth becomes dust” refers to acknowledging one's worthlessness and completely obeying God's will.

When carrying the yoke of suffering, it means not being forced to bear it, but completely obeying the will of God who has allowed it.

Those who acknowledge the fact that God allows suffering will be able to endure all situations calmly without complaining or complaining under any circumstances.

3) Bearing a yoke: Be willing to take it (30)

It refers to the attitude of willingly accepting with a heart of repentance and self-reflection without rejecting or avoiding the hardships that may come upon you.

The reason we have to be willing to endure is that the suffering will not last forever.(31~32)

When God takes the yoke of suffering, believers must accept it willingly and humbly.

4. God's true intention toward life (33~36)

One). Realizing God's true heart (33)

Another hope of the prophet is the realization of God's true heart. I realized that the punishment of Israel was never God's original intention.

The reason God allowed suffering despite not being God's true intention was that suffering was necessary to set them right.

2) Things that God is not pleased with (34-36)

① To step on a prisoner

* It often happens in an unjust world, where the powerful and the have oppressed the weak and the poor. God will surely retaliate for this injustice.

② to pervert people's judgment

* God rules with fairness and justice, and he does not condone judges making unjust judgments.

③ Making a person's lawsuit unfair

* In a world that revolves around the wealthy, the poor and weak are too often chastised. Even if they appeal to the law, they do not get a solution. God will surely judge this phenomenon.

5. Woes and blessings come from the mouth of God (37-39)

One). Hope: All things in the world are being done according to the sovereign providence of God. (37)

2). Emphasis: It is the fact that all things, whether woes or blessings, are by the will of God. (38)

3). Recognition: We must acknowledge God in all things. (39)

(Matt 16:27; John 15:2; 1 Corinthians 11:32; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Hebrews 12:5-7........)

This is a lesson about how important spiritual awakening is.
