Title "It is finished" / John 19:17-30
Jesus spoke seven words on the cross. According to the Gospel of John, Jesus finally said “It is finished” and died. In those words, all the profound meanings are implied that He fulfilled all the will of coming to this earth as the Messiah, fully revealed God's disposition, fully fulfilled the law, and paid the full price for the work of redemption. What does those words spoken on the cross 2000 years ago have to do with me today?
1. "All suffering is over"
Jesus' suffering to save mankind was incomparable to any other human beings. The contempt, suffering, chastisement, and humiliation that Jesus suffered (Isaiah 53:3.4)... All those sufferings were predicated on death. However, “it is finished” means that the king of kings and lords of the Lord sat at the right hand of God, looking at the glory of judgment, declaring that all suffering has come to an end and that the sufferings of hell will no longer proceed. Hell is no longer with us because of what the Lord has done. The power of sin has come to an end and curses and bondage have been pulled away from us. As Jesus broke the authority of death, our sufferings in the next life came to an end.
2. "Everything that God the Father entrusted to God the Son has been accomplished"
The purpose of Jesus' coming to this earth was to accomplish God's will (Hebrews 10:5-7). God the Father's wish for redemption was fully fulfilled by Jesus the Son. The food that Jesus asked for while on this earth was to fulfill God's will, and he did everything according to the will of the indwelling Father (John 4:34, 14:10). Also, the Son Jesus gave glory to God by completing what God the Father had entrusted to him (17:4). We too should become children who glorify God the Father by faithfully fulfilling the will that God has entrusted to us through all that God has given us, including family, health, wisdom, freedom, and work.
3. “All the prophecies of the Old Testament have been fulfilled”
From Genesis to Malachi, the Old Testament prophesied that Jesus would be born of a virgin, descended from Abraham, born of David, in Bethlehem, healed many, entered on a donkey, was despised and despised, and even crucified. Jesus fulfilled all these prophecies. The promise of his return has not yet been fulfilled, but we look forward to it and believe that all will be fulfilled according to the word. The God of love has given us a nation and a people (Isaiah 43:2-3), gave his only begotten Son (John 3:16), and has given us the Holy Spirit as the Counselor, the Word of Revelation and the gift of faith to us. You have confirmed your love. We too must love God's Word, obey it, and live by it, fulfilling God's will.
Let me conclude.
Just as there is no more humiliation and suffering for Jesus, we must also believe that the sufferings of hell are over and that the glory of heaven has already been given. Just as Jesus completely fulfilled God's will, we must also fully fulfill the command to "become my witnesses to the ends of the earth" that we received from the Lord. Since the Lord has done everything, all we have to do now is to receive what the Lord gives us by faith. I hope that you will become all the children of God and the people of the kingdom of heaven who enjoy the blessing of the Lord, who accomplished everything as He gave you according to the will of the Lord by faith.
