Title "It is finished" / John 19:28-30
Content accomplished”
John 19:28-30
Jesus spoke seven times on the cross. The words are not all in one place according to the order, but are scattered throughout the Gospels, so you need to think about the order and arrange them. Among them, the last utterance is found in today's text.
“It is finished” (John 19:30)
Jesus declared, “It is finished” and died. Has Jesus really accomplished it all? What have you accomplished? What did you accomplish while hanging on a tree there, looking so desperate to the human eye? In the most shameful form, in the most wretched form, in the form of a failure, in the form of weakness, in the form of a sinner, in the form of abandonment, what did you accomplish by hanging on a tree like that?
It was said that He had accomplished all the work of redemption for the salvation of mankind. The death of the Lord is not the death of a human being. It was the death of the Son of God for the redemption of all mankind. The words prophesied by numerous prophets through the Old Testament, the grace of forgiveness of sins that was shown like a shadow through all the Old Testament sacrifices and worship, the promises of God that were constantly promised through the word, the fulfillment of all, the fulfillment of all , that is what Jesus accomplished. The Lord also accomplished the creation of all things. You have accomplished all that salvation by becoming a ransom sacrifice for mankind. The way of salvation has been opened to mankind, who are bound by the chains of sin and have no choice but to be judged forever. The Lord has accomplished all the things that God had planned. So the Lord cried out. ‘It is finished!’ This is not the cry of a loser. This is not the cry of a sinner. It was the cry of victory. It was the cry of a man who fulfilled his mission.
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
through the redemption in Christ Jesus
justified freely by the grace of God. Romans 3:23-24
He raised you, who were dead in trespasses and sins. Ephesians 2:1
By grace you have been saved through faith
It is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God Ephesians 2:8
Jesus, who accomplished all these things, declared, “It is finished.”
After rescuing 33 Chilean miners, rescuers saw a picture of “Mision Cumplida” written on a placard unfolded in the pit. It can only be done by those who have fulfilled their mission, and who have successfully carried out their assigned tasks to the end.
What a despair it must have been when you are locked up 622m underground and you can't see the future! It is said that he endured the time of not knowing whether to live or die for 17 days by sharing two spoons of tuna, half a cookie, and half a cup of milk every two days. Finally, a 13 cm probe that looks like a needle hole came down from above. From then on, this 13 cm path became a path of hope to connect with the world.
It is said that they were able to survive for 69 days because the work group leader 'Louise Usrua' (54) did well, but the truth is that they were able to survive there because they knew them from above, to rescue them. The fact that it is coming down now, that hope, that might have made it possible to overcome the extreme situation. Without hope, no one can endure such an extreme situation. And there they prayed and worshiped with a good faith miner named Enrique.
So, it is said that the victory on this day is the result of ① concessions and sacrifices ② perfect rescue ③ national patience ④ global concern, but above all, ⑤ faith and hope. It was not a victory for them alone, but a victory for the efforts of countless people who worked hard until the end and fulfilled their mission. So the rescuers could say “Mision Cumplida”.
“It is finished” is a confession that only those who have completed their entrusted mission can cry out. It is incomparable to the rescue of the miners, but the words Jesus cried out on the cross, “It is finished”, is a declaration of the completion of the mission of saving mankind. He overcame the power of Satan and accomplished everything. You overcame the forces of death and accomplished everything. He overcame lies and accomplished everything with the truth. He completed salvation and accomplished it all. Because of that “completed” work of salvation, today we enjoy the authority of children of God, we have eternal hope, and we are still worshiping.
To those who receive it, to those who believe in his name
He has given you the power to become children of God.
It was not born of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man.
Only those who are born by the will of God. John 1:12-13
It has been accomplished” τελεω (Teleo) “It is finished” In this cry of the Lord, as an individual, I feel like I am receiving the homework of my life. As the Lord has accomplished it, I must become a life of fulfillment.... As the Lord said that it has been accomplished, I also hope that my last words will be ‘It is finished’ with joy. How about you? Are you living a fulfilling life?
There are three things you must have in order to fulfill your life.
First, you must have a mission to accomplish everything.
If you set your life goals in faith and have them, you will live a life of fulfillment. What would you achieve in a life without a goal?
Dear brothers and sisters, what kind of Christian do you want to become? What kind of Christian family do you want to build? How do you want to raise your children in faith? Do you have such a goal of faith? Please make your own Christian image of who you want to be a specific Christian, not a vague belief. As you constantly project yourself towards it, you will mature into a more beautiful faith.
Young people, I hope you have a vision of faith. I hope you have a real life goal that pleases God. Only then can you live a full life.
Elderly members, what is the goal of your life that you are achieving? I hope it is a goal that pleases God. So, when my whole life was over and I stood before God, I said, ‘Lord, I have accomplished everything you have entrusted to me.’’ With the five talents you gave me, I also left five talents.’ I hope I can confess this.
Maybe we won't be able to do it all. For us, a life that is fulfilled does not mean perfection, but a life that does our best. Because the Lord sees the best faith, not the finished result. The praise of the master was the same whether he had acquired five or two talents. Why? Because he sees not the result, but the faith that he did his best.
Second, we can achieve everything only when we win the spiritual battle.
In order to achieve something, sometimes you have to give up other things, make an effort, and struggle with obstacles to achieve the goal you want to achieve. To achieve means to strive for something. It's not a life of fulfillment to have come this far because it just flows.
The 100m athlete trains to dry blood in order to advance 0.01 seconds. The expert throws away all other possibilities for the job. Figure skater Yuna Kim had to give up the rest of her enjoyment, dating, and comfort in order to stand tall in the world.
So is faith. To achieve it, you must constantly fight a spiritual battle for that goal. You have to work hard and work hard. A goal full of plans and thoughts is not a dream, but a delusion, and an empty life with nothing to achieve. In order to achieve everything, we must win the spiritual battle.
But you, man of God, avoid these
following righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness,
Fight the good fight of faith, take hold of eternal life.... 1 Timothy 6:11-12
In order to become a life that we, the people of God, we must strive for, we must fight the good spiritual battle. It does not happen automatically, but it is achieved through hard work and effort. Only such a person can have the joy of declaring “it is finished.”
Third, you must run to the end to achieve everything.
To achieve everything means to run all the way to the end. No matter how tired and hard it is, no matter how difficult and difficult it is, even in temptations and bad circumstances, even when you fail and fall, only those who run to the end can shout “It is finished!”
There were times when even a great prophet like Elijah was exhausted and fell halfway through and was about to give up. However, God sent an angel to Elijah, who fell under the rosemary tree, and raised him up again and gave him strength to run to the end. By pouring out the grace of ‘Jachin’ for building up and ‘Boaz’ for strength, I was able to gain strength again and get up and run to the end to carry out my mission.
To achieve everything is to believe in the promises of the Word and run to the end. Even if life is difficult, I pray that you will hold on to the word and run to the end so that you can achieve everything. Even when we are tired and weary, we hope that you will get up again and run to the end while looking at the God of Jachin who builds you up (1 Kings 7:21). Even when the weight of life is too heavy and you want to give up, I hope that you will become the saints who run with strength while holding on to the God of Boaz, who is the power.
Rescue of 33 Chilean miners moves the world and praises their perseverance, but in fact, what really played a decisive role in their rescue is the rover, which triumphed over 30 failures and tried to the end. It is said that it is almost a miracle that the 13 cm probe found the place where they were trapped and drilled it, like finding a needle in the desert. There were 29 failures, but by trying to the end, they found the space they were in. And it was through that probe that various survival items were delivered to them. Running to the end is also the key to what it accomplishes.
I fight the good fight
I have finished my course, I have kept the faith
From now on there is prepared for me the crown of righteousness,
The Lord, the righteous Judge, will give it to me on that day.
Not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
The last words that Jesus cried out on the cross and was destined to be -'It is finished!'.-This is a cry that only those who have a goal can cry out. It is a cry that only those who have won the spiritual battle can cry out. It is a cry that only those who have run to the end can shout. I bless you for a life where you can cry out, “It’s done!” in one day at a time, in one year at the most, and finally throughout my entire life.
