Content Title: Jehovah Jireh!
Bible: Genesis 22:1-24
Date: 1997. 5. 18 (Sunday) Sunday afternoon at Mission Church
Genesis 22:1 After these things God called Abraham to the test, and said, "Abraham," he said, "Here I am.
Genesis 22:2 Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, says the LORD, and offer him there as a burnt offering on a mountain as far as I will show you.
Today's Bible records that God called Abraham to test him. The Bible speaks of two trials.
The first is the temptation that Satan brings, and the purpose is destruction and separation from God. God does not do these tests.
James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God, for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself tempts no one.
James 1:14 But each one is tempted, being drawn away and deceived by his own desire
Do not let today's test fall into temptation! It is not the test that we prayed for, but in a positive sense, God gives us for the growth and confirmation of our faith. These exams are given continuously until passed.
Ex) Driver's license test / You take the same test until you pass.
The content of the test: “Offer your son Isaac! ” / This was forbidden by the law, and human sacrifices were performed by Gentiles. So, does God want human sacrifices here? It's not that important to do. Because, in the end, he did not accept the sacrifice of the physical grain.
The method of the test: “Go the three-day road and go to the mountain I am showing you to offer up!”
The purpose of the test: To make us depend only on God instead of Isaac. Like Isaac, we must examine ourselves to see if there is anything we love and depend on more than God.
When you pass: God's approval and God's blessings and promises are given. Your faith will reach a high level.
Genesis 22:3 Abraham got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, took his two servants, and his son Isaac, and cut the wood for the burnt offering, and left, and went to the place God had directed him.
Genesis 22:4 And on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place afar off.
Genesis 22:5 Then Abraham said to his servant, "Stay here with the donkey, for I and the child will go over there to worship, and I will return to you."
Now, we see Abraham's determination of faith and Abraham who bore the test.
Getting up early: It takes determination to do God's demands.
Not consulting with wife: There is no specific discussion in the Bible with my wife.
There was no agitation during the three-day period. : God made him go on the three-day road to give him ample opportunity.
Set aside the servants: Removed any circumstance that hindered obedience to God.
Genesis 22:6 So Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and put it on his son Isaac, and he went with them two with fire and a sword in his hand.
Genesis 22:7 And Isaac spoke to his father Abraham, and said, My father. And he said, Here I am, my son. And Isaac said, The fire and the wood are; but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?
Genesis 22:8 Abraham said, "Son, God himself will provide for himself a lamb for a burnt offering." So the two went out together.
Genesis 22:9 And when he came to the place God had instructed him, Abraham built an altar there and spread the wood, and bound Isaac his son, and laid it on the wood of the altar.
Genesis 22:10 He stretched out his hand and took the sword to seize the son.
Genesis 22:11 The angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" And Abraham said, "Here I am."
Abraham Sacrifice Isaac
The son's question: Where is the lamb for the burnt offering?
Father's answer: God Himself will provide.
It is like a prophecy. The lamb that will be sacrificed to restore their relationship with God is Jesus Christ, the Lamb that God Himself prepared.
In this scene, we can understand the heart of God the Father, who gave his only begotten Son as a sacrifice on the cross, through the heart of Abraham who truly offered his son.
The pain of Abraham when he lifted up his sword and struck it, that is the feeling that God gave his only begotten Son.
However, the difference between Abraham and God is that if this was his job, God the Father completely sacrificed his only begotten Son.
The angel now detains him. “Abraham! Abraham!”
Considering that it was called twice, it is a very urgent situation.
Even God is persuaded by our active obedience.
There were some who possessed a belief that marveled when the Lord was on earth.
Ex) The centurion's faith / “Just say the word!”
Ex) When I came out for the demon-possessed daughter of a Canaanite woman / “It’s true, even the dogs…”
You must have the faith that can make the Lord nervous.
Abraham's answer: “Lord! I am here.”
When he calls to test him, he says, “Lord! Here I am,” he said.
I am here even where you call me.
I am here in the place of obedience. it is important to do
Many people confess, “Here I am,” when they hear the word, but
In the place of obedience, there are so many people who say, “Adam, where are you?”, but no matter how many people search for them, only echoes are ringing!
Let's find the Bible and read it!
“John 14:21 He who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him!”
Genesis 22:12 The angel said, "Do not lay your hand on the boy, do nothing to him. You have not withheld me, your son, your only son, and now I know that you fear God."
22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a ram was behind him, and its horn was caught in the bushes; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered it as a burnt offering in his son's place
Genesis 22:14 And Abraham called the name of the land Jehovah-jireh, so to this day people say, "It will be prepared on the mountain of the Lord."
Now Abraham receives God's approval. Listen carefully to the voice of God!
Genesis 22:12 The angel said, "Do not lay your hand on the boy, do nothing to him. You have not withheld me, your son, your only son, and now I know that you fear God."
What is the remaining reader, Isaac?
Only when you give that up can you say you truly love God.
We may just be in a proper relationship when something like Isaac, the only one we put weight on, still remains more precious to us, but we are not in a perfect relationship with God.
In fact, this love is the love of God that has already been ordained.
God's love for his only begotten Son
It is confirmed by the love of God who has already given us the most precious thing.
Jehovah Jireh!
It means that God prepares in advance.
The first thing we need to remember is that what we give to God is actually what God has prepared (everything we give... God has provided),
Also, what we need means that God prepares in advance (God prepares my life path),
And for our salvation, God has provided all that is necessary, and that person is Jesus Christ, the lamb for the sinless ransom.
