Title: Jesus and the Law

Content Judaism and Christianity have something in common, but they are very different. One of the reasons why there is a remarkable difference in speaking of the same scriptures, the same Jehovah God, is the judge. It is because they have different perspectives to go down a completely different path even though they have the same God/Old Testament in front of them. Among the reasons the Jews opposed Jesus, they were the disciples of true Moses who kept the law, but Jesus regarded him as a destroyer of the law (John 9:29). word that expresses The word law appears about 220 times in the Old Testament. It means to point out, to teach, to instruct. It is a word that means to awaken for something. But the Jews think of the law as the source, not the law as a means. The Law and the Gospel (Jesus) issues are really important tasks and are easy to confuse.

Luther said that one can become a theologian by properly understanding the relationship between the law and the gospel. He said that there are laws and gospels in the Bible, but the law requires and the gospel gives. And he said that all laws should be interpreted in the light of sound. That is why the law is said to be a minister of the gospel. So the purpose of the law

1) The law teaches sin

2) It is said that sinners turn to the gospel of grace in order to be saved. He said that the law was the measure of conscience for the unbeliever and taught sin and Christ to the believer.

3) And after becoming a believer, the saints will depend more on God and become a guide to sanctification.

1. Views on the Law

Of the various views on the law, three important explanations are possible.

1) Legalism. (Mononism/Legalism)

It does not mean that you will be saved by keeping all the requirements and provisions of the law. That's why we take an attitude to have human behavior holy.

2) Outlawism (Anti-legalism)

If you believe in Jesus, you will go to heaven, but you do not need to keep the law. This is very dangerous with Gnosticism. Those who have the assurance of salvation through the cross do not follow the law to follow the Lord, but commit evil deeds, saying that the law has nothing to do with me. In verse 19, the Lord said that we must not forsake the commandments.

3) Evangelicalism.

I believe that salvation comes through faith. Therefore, the saints who are saved are those who keep the law with thanksgiving. Just as Jesus was crucified to fulfill the law, the saints live by keeping the commandments God has given by faith and thanksgiving.

2. The Jewish Misunderstanding.

1) They did not know that the core of the law was Jesus.

The Jews did not believe that Christ was the center of the law. In general, we classify the law into 1) moral law, 2) social law, and 3) ceremonial law, as Thomas Aquinas argued. In the sacrificial law, the priest/sacrifice/altar/table of bread all describe the person and work of the coming Messiah. (Types) They killed animals for their transgressions, and did not know why the beast had to die and what the sacrificed animal meant I did. Prophets speak of Messianic covenants at key points. The prophet Isaiah they spoke of prophesied the birth and death of the Messiah (chapter 53).

2) They did not know the spiritual meaning of the law.

3) They did not know Jesus who perfected the law.

Jesus also said that I did not come to break the law, but to perfect it. He was born under the law, obeyed, and died on the cross to fulfill the law. Therefore, Jesus is the fulfillment of the law. The ultimate goal of the law is salvation. The purpose of the cross is salvation from sin. Therefore, the purpose of the cross and the purpose of the law are the same.

1) Jesus completed it by teaching the law.

2) Jesus accomplished it through his life and life.

3) It was accomplished through the cross.

In James 2:10, it is said that anyone who keeps the whole law and stumbles upon one of them is a transgressor. The one who said "Do not commit adultery" also said not to murder. It asserts the integrity of the law. However, he insists that he is a human being who cannot be fully protected. Therefore, it is said that Jesus kept the law and fulfilled it.

3. The whole word of God.

Verse 16/ insists on the perfection of God's Word, saying that it must be fulfilled according to the Word. It is the truth that there will be destruction if we do not keep all the Word. It is also the truth that those who cannot be saved by doing the law will be saved if they believe in Jesus on the cross, and it is a promise that never changes. There are many foolish people these days who claim to be theologians and shepherds and claim the inerrancy (wrong) and insufficiency (sufficiency) of the Bible. Don't be deceived by this temptation. We believe in and follow scale inspiration/complete inspiration. And I believe in the sufficiency of the Bible.

4. The Pharisee's Righteousness

Jesus insisted on the righteousness of the Pharisees, saying that your righteousness must be better than these. What is the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees? Righteousness is righteousness, but it is a righteousness that does not reach the kingdom of heaven. It's wrong. This refers to works that are achieved through one's own efforts, not God's righteousness.

1) The Pharisees speak of righteousness by doing the law. (Salvation)

It's not that Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and the scribes. They are respectable people. Their claim is the teaching that salvation is achieved through works, but they do not know the fall and incompetence of human beings. Because human efforts do not reach the final state of the law, we must believe in Jesus Christ, who is more than just righteousness. Their righteousness holds the Bible in hand and sings of human righteousness. While reading the Bible that there is no one righteous, not even one, he insists on human actions while saying Amen to the people who do evil. Their righteousness is not faith, but righteousness, which soon becomes moralism.

2) You become a foodie.

3) It becomes humanism.

Jesus said the Pharisees were like whitewashed tombs. It is said that people who decorate well on the outside but cannot see the rotten inside. The saints cannot go to heaven because of the righteousness that the Pharisees cannot achieve. The way to heaven is opened only when they have the more perfect righteousness of Christ than their branches. Because the righteousness of the law did not work out salvation, Jesus presented the righteousness that fulfilled the law and gave salvation to those who believed in him. This righteousness does not destroy the righteousness of the law, it is the righteousness that is fulfilled. It is said that the Pharisees and scribes are saved by works.

4) They teach well but do not practice.

And I try to do it. They teach you to do when you can't do everything yourself. And while teaching in fields related to worldly interests, he does not do it himself. That is why Jesus told the Pharisees not to listen to the teachings of the Pharisees and learn how to do them. It claims to do works, but there is no action. They are teachers without works, with faith without works. These are people who think with human brains without the work of the Holy Spirit. The righteousness obtained through faith in Jesus is far more beautiful than that of the Pharisees.
