Text: Genesis 1:1-5, John 1:1-4,
According to tradition, the symbols of the four Gospels are Matthew-Lion, Mark-Man, Luke-Ox, and John-Eagle. Matthew saw Jesus as the Messiah and the lion of the tribe of Judah, Mark regarded Jesus as a true human being, Luke regarded Jesus as a servant and sacrifice to mankind, and John saw Jesus as the eternal truth, mystery and heart of God as an eagle It means looking straight into your eyes. That's why so many people feel closer to God and Jesus in this gospel. That is why many Christians exalt this gospel as the most precious book of the New Testament, nourishing the heart, nourishing the mind, and finding rest for the soul. The Gospel of John does not contain the Nativity, Baptism, Temptation, Supper, Gethsemane, Ascension, and parables found in the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew Mark and Luke). The world seen with the naked eye and the world invisible to the naked eye meet.
Today's Old and New Testament texts are reminiscent of the old gongs that open the curtains of a magnificent drama. One contains the drama of creation and the other contains the drama of salvation. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). “In the beginning was the Word” (John 1:1a). The Word was not created here. The Word is not a part of the created world, but a part of eternity, meaning that he was with God before the creation of the world (John 1:1b). It is called the preexistence of Jesus. It is difficult to understand and explain the pre-existence theory, but the important truth here is that God has always been like Jesus. The role Jesus played when He came to earth was to open the windows of heaven to show God's eternal and unchanging love.
One of the truths he has communicated to us through that window is that Jesus is the ‘life and light’. The Gospel of John begins with life (‘in him was life’ John 1:4a) and ends with life (‘in whose name you may have life’ John 20:31b). In the Gospel of John, the word life (zoe) appears more than 35 times and the word live (zen) appears more than 15 times. 1) Life is the opposite of destruction, condemnation, and death. 2) It is reminiscent of the tree of life in the center of the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:9; 3:22). 3) Abundance (John 10:10) is, of course, eternal life (John 3:16). “This life is the light of men” (John 1:4b). It is reminiscent of the original work of the Old Testament (Genesis 1:3-5). 1) Light drives away chaos and darkness. 2) Let us see the true reality. 3) Guide our way. He shows you the way to go. He shows us the true way of this life and that life.
