Title: Jesus as the Messiah
Contents
The content of the text is John 4:1-26
The Hebrew word Messiah (Messiah) is the same word as “Christ” in the Greek, which means “the anointed one” (Leviticus 4:3,5,16; 6:15). In the Old Testament, the anointed is “ It has the meaning of “a leader established by God, one with the Spirit of God, and one who has been consecrated by God. The Messiah the people of Israel were waiting for was “the one who inherited the lasting kingdom promised to David” (2 Samuel 7:13). In other words, the Messiah would come as a descendant of David and rule the world with fairness and justice to save the nation of Israel. (Jeremiah 23:5, Psalm 2:2, 18:50, 84:9) Matthew 1:1 “The genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of Abraham and David” emphasizes David. Jesus came not as a worldly or political Messiah, but as the Messiah, the savior of the salvation of mankind. Today's text introduces Jesus, who came as the Messiah of mankind's salvation, in three different ways.
We who are living today must also strive to save souls. (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8)
Second, it is Jesus who gives eternal life (verse 14). Water is absolutely essential in life. If there is moisture and water in the soil, life will be active, but if there is no water, life will be lost. Even the origin of human beings started centered on water and developed and formed a culture. Genesis 1:2 “The Spirit of God moved on the waters” Genesis 1:6-7 “Water above the firmament (heaven) and water under the firmament (sea, Genesis 1:10)” Garden of Eden (Gen. ), the rivers (Pison River, Gihon River, Hiddegel River, and Euphrates River) began, and in Korea alone, it was built along the river “Baekje (Geum River), Silla (Nakdong River), Goguryeo (Taedong River) = Ijo Period (Han River)”. can be seen. Recently, many scholars are concerned about the earth's water shortage. Korea is also experiencing a water shortage. Even if this water is sufficient, it cannot quench our thirst. Just as in the Old Testament times, their sins were not completely forgiven even when they sacrificed and sacrificed sheep. However, since Jesus became the sacrifice of the Lamb on the cross, it is completely forgiven. In this way, only Jesus Christ can give us the water of life abundantly without being thirsty (John 6:35,55; 7:38).
“Lord! May I meet you passionately in worship.”
