Title: Jesus Calling Me to Come
This is the story of Sun Da Sing, who is still revered as a saint in India. In his youth he was troubled by the search for truth. He asked, “What is the truth?” and studied various religions. Paramunism, Hinduism, Muhammadism, Buddhism, etc. But in the end it failed. He decided to die, thinking, “If you cannot find the truth, you would rather die.” He lay on the railroad tracks as a pillow and waited for the train to arrive. Then a piece of paper was blown away by the wind and fell in front of him. I unintentionally looked at the note. He found a surprising fact when he saw the contents of the note, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He said, “Other religions teach that you must do good deeds on your own and build up righteousness to be saved...who am I that you ask me to come to you?” So he stopped his suicidal thoughts and went to the place written on the note to finally find the person he wants. It is said that he got the answer and became a great saint.
Dear saints,
How would you answer if I asked you, “What is truth?” Like Sun Dashing, who found the answer to 'What is truth about man?' at this time today, in John 14:6-7, “Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes. If you had known me, you would have known my Father too. From now on, you know him and have seen him.” Jesus Christ is the truth, and Jesus Christ is the only one who can answer all life’s problems. I bless you that it will be a time of grace to realize and acknowledge that you are.
1. He is the one who bears our heavy burdens.
It is no exaggeration to say that the life of Jesus began with the word “come” and ended with the word “come”. When Jesus first called his disciples, he said, “Come and see,” “Follow me,” and “Come to me.” For example, it was said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.”
Any place in the world that asks me to come will always demand a certain price. When you go to the store, the staff are very friendly. And when you leave, you smile and say, "Come back again." It includes the meaning of “Please come and sell me next time.”
But Jesus' "come" is an invitation that does not require anything in return. In addition, Jesus' "come" is an invitation to bear even the heavy burdens that I am carrying. It's a great invitation that comes at no cost.
Jesus also calls to me and us at this time, “Come to me.” When I am discouraged, when I am angry, when I am about to commit a crime, when I am frustrated and disappointed, when I have a hard time carrying the heavy burden of life, they are looking for me and inviting me to “come”. He calls and invites, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden.”
The pastor looked at the man for a long time and replied:
“Teacher, if there is a dead man lying here and a very heavy load is placed on him, will he be able to feel the weight?”
Yes. He who can feel the burden of sin even a little heavy is alive. The dead do not feel. Do you feel that the burden of sin and the burden of life are heavy? The only place where you can lay down your heavy burdens if you feel even a little bit is on the cross of Jesus Christ. Only Jesus Christ can take on the heavy burdens of our lives with ease.
As Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you, and he will never allow the righteous to be moved.” Jesus never tolerates our faith being shaken and weary because of our heavy burdens. Are you struggling with a heavy load right now? To you through hardships, Jesus calls you, “Don’t be troubled by carrying heavy burdens on your own, trust and trust in yourself.”
2. He becomes our true shelter.
A theologian named Gibson explained the words of Matthew 11:28, “I will give you rest,” and said, “It does not mean that the Lord gives us rest, but that the Lord Himself is our rest.” Ok. Jesus Himself is our rest and our eternal resting place. In other words, any park or playground that Jesus made is not our shelter, but Jesus Himself is our shelter.
There are words that men and women, adults and children use like a habit. It means "tired." One day, an adult met two girls with kindergarten bags in the elevator of an apartment building. When a child said to my friend, “Child, I am tired,” I heard my friend also said, “I am tired, too,” and the grown-up asked: “What makes you so tired?” Then one child replied, “Uncle, I went to kindergarten, I went to a private academy to play the piano, I went to an art academy, I went to a Jusan academy, and I went to a dance academy. How can I not get tired?” Finally, the adult realized that his thoughts were short and said to the child, “That’s right. You must be very tired.”
In this way, regardless of age or gender, modern people are living a tiring life. The words 'tired', 'loneliness', and 'lonely' that modern people spit out as a habit are, after all, a confession and a scream that there is no place to rest comfortably. In a word, it is a cry that really wants to rest.
People are very tired of bearing their burdens, especially the burdens of sin and its fruits, and they want to rest from them. To these people, Jesus calls, “Come to me and rest.”
A hymn lyricist named Cushing responded to Jesus' invitation with the following confession and sang: “Under your wing I rest in peace. Even when the night is deep and the rain and wind blow, my father will protect me, and there I will rest in peace. Under your wing, I will rest in peace. The world cannot comfort me, but there I will find peace. There is true joy under your wings. While I am on the road to the tormented world, I will hide there and be cared for and find eternal rest.” This is the lyrics of Hymn 478, which we sing in grace.
Do you think you are walking on a difficult life path? Here is a place to rest. There is a place to go and rest when you are tired and collapsed. There is a place to rest when wandering in the valley of defeat and despair. That place is Jesus.
Do you want to take a break for various reasons? Do you want to get real rest? Go to Jesus now. Go under the cross There, the true rest that only Jesus, the Lord of rest, can give, which the world cannot know or give, awaits you.
3. He is the one who gives us good things.
Verse 29 says, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.” And in verse 30, he said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
The meaning of these two verses is, “Bring to me meek and humble the heavy burden you are sifting, and the light and light burdens of love, blessings, grace, gratitude, and joy that I give you. There is no reason.”
We can exchange our heavy and tedious burdens with Jesus' yoke and burden, which are easy and light in contrast to ours. There is trust in this invitation from Jesus. For Jesus is meek and humble in contrast to those who reject him.
St. Augustine said of Jesus' yoke and burden, "This burden is not a heavy burden, but wings that can fly." Wings are not burdens, but tools to fly.
You know the story of a fairy tale called The Ugly Duckling. Young swans were dissatisfied with their unusually large wings, not as small as other ducks. Its wings were so large that it was difficult to walk as fast as other ducks with smaller wings. For a young swan, large wings became an unwieldy burden. However, a swan that has grown to a certain degree has become a great tool for flying high in the sky, boasting an elegant figure, at the moment when it flaps its wings, which has been a huge burden on him one day.
The burden we originally had is the burden of sin, and since it is the burden of worry, anxiety, and suffering, it becomes heavier and heavier and eventually sinks into the burden of destruction. But the burden that Jesus commands us to bear is the wings of life that can soar toward heaven, like the wings of a young swan.
Dear saints,
We must come to Jesus earnestly and live with peace of mind and rest. Why do you think we continue to carry the burden Jesus carried? Jesus said he would take care of everything, so why do we leave him, carry heavy burdens, and struggle because we don't know what to do?
If we surrender everything to Jesus and earnestly depend on Jesus, we can find rest in our hearts and enjoy life.
Even if your eyes don't see any evidence, your ears don't hear anything, and your hands don't hold anything, just rely on Jesus and Jesus will take care of everything. For the universe, time and space, life and death and all things are under the sovereignty of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, at this time, I ask you to listen deeply to the invitation of Jesus Christ to “come to me” to me and us. Knowing that only Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, we can all live happily with our Lord Jesus Christ, who says, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” bless you to be
