Mark 2:17 Jesus Calls Sinners 2004/1/18/Daytime Kim Eui-gyu

(John 4:24) God is a Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

bible text

(Mark 2:17) When Jesus heard this, he said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

Sermon text

At the time of Jesus, there were people who were bullied in the Jewish society. They were publicans.

When comparing the Jews to how much they hated tax collectors, they hated and hated them like filthy flies that sucked blood and sat on the wounds of sick people.

Because they were of the same kind, they used various kinds of taxes to pay taxes to Rome, and then they filled their stomachs with the remainder.

so

They were treated like human garbage.

At that time, when Jews met tax collectors, they did not treat them as human beings, nor did they deal with them.

With tax collectors, they thought that sin and infidelity could be transmitted just by rubbing the collar.

It was absolutely unacceptable to dine with the tax collectors for the Pharisees and scribes who would not even allow them to pass by.

Even so, Jesus called the tax collector as a disciple and ate and had fellowship with him.

The Pharisees and the scribes said, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?" criticize

To this, the Lord answered, "Those who are healthy have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners." This is the plot of today's text.

Jesus came to call sinners

Why did Jesus come to call sinners?

Because the source of all suffering in life comes from sin

Today's text, Mark 1:1 and below, records the miracle of healing the paralytic.

Jesus first healed the paralytic

(Mark 2:5) When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven you." Then he healed

(Mark 2:11) I say to you, get up, take your mat, and go home.

(Mark 2:12) And he got up and immediately took the table and went out in front of all the people, and they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this."

Hallelujah

After proclaiming the forgiveness of sins, he told me to get up and walk.

This tells us that the root of the disease is sin.

The source of all suffering in our lives is the suffering that occurred after Adam and Eve sinned by eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden.

(Jeremiah 5:25) Your transgressions have dispelled these things, and your sins have prevented the good from coming to you.

They say it is a sin to block our dreams

Aren't we the ones who struggle to realize our dreams without realizing that it is a sin that is blocking our good things?

You can't achieve anything good without resolving your sins

(Ex 34:7) He will show mercy to a thousand generations, forgive iniquity, trespass, and sin, but will by no means acquit the one who is to be punished, and will repay the wickedness of fathers to the third and fourth generations.

What believers need to know about sin is that they are forgiven, but they must bear in mind that they are not spared the punishment.

so

(Hebrews 12:4) He says that you fight sin, but do not resist it to the point of shedding blood.

We must keep in our hearts that sins are forgiven, but punishment is never escaped.

Therefore, King Saul, who was called and used as the first king of Israel, was severely punished.

(1 Chronicles 10:13) The Bible tells us that Saul died because he had sinned against the LORD, and he did not keep the word of the LORD, and he invited a stranger to teach him.

(Romans 6:23) The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

sin destroys us

Sin puts us in ruin

Sin puts us in tribulation, in the end it is death

That is why, when we pray for healing, we must confess our sins and pray.

(James 5:16) Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous has great power at work.

Don't pray while you're a sinner

Because God cannot hear the prayers of sinners.

(Isa 1:15) When you spread out your hands, I will cover your eyes, and you will pray a lot, but I will not listen; for your hands are full of blood.

(Isa 59:1) The LORD's hand is not short, that it cannot save, nor is his ear dull that it cannot hear.

(Isa 59:2) But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from hearing you.

All suffering is rooted in sin

Severe punishment was given to Eve and Adam who sinned by eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden.

(Genesis 3:16) And he said to the woman, "I will greatly increase the pain of childbearing on you, and you will labor and bear children, and you will long for your husband, and he will rule over you.

The labor pains that women suffer today are the consequences of sin.'

Not only that, it is said that longing for a husband and suffering because of love are the result of sin.??

This is because, as a result of sin, longing for a husband arose.

Being ruled by a husband is also a result of sin.

From the past to the present, how many humiliating treatments have been received from husbands is the result of sin, and the sorrow of Korean women is the result of sin.

Eve was not ruled by Adam in the Garden of Eden

But as a result of sin, women suffered from the beginning of being ruled.

After sinning, the man also suffered

(Genesis 3:17) And he said to Adam, "Cursed is the earth because of you, because you have listened to your wife and ate from the tree I told you not to eat.

(Genesis 3:18) The earth will produce you thorns and thistles.

Do women know how grueling today's men's struggle for a living is?

Following Eve? temptation, as a result of eating the forbidden fruit, the earth was cursed. So the earth produced thorn bushes and thistles, sweating and toiling to produce food.

Because of sin, life not only suffers but also prevents us from reaching the glory of God

(Romans 3:23) For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

(Exodus 20:5) For God is a jealous God; I pay for the sins of those who hate me, from fathers to sons to the third and fourth generations.

Today, in verse 17, Jesus said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

Who comes to church? People with problems come.

They come with many problems in life.

Financial problems, physical problems, family problems, business problems, spiritual problems, etc... I am coming to solve the things that I cannot do on my own with the power of God and the grace of the Lord.

Our church cannot be perfect because it is a community of people who come with problems.

The Lord came for this.

(Romans 3:10) As it is written, there is none righteous, not even one.

(Romans 3:11) There is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God.

(Romans 3:12) All have turned aside, and one thing has become useless; there is no one who does good, not even one.

That is why the Lord did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.

(Mark 2:17) When Jesus heard this, he said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

Therefore, the Lord is most pleased when we confess our sins and repent deeply.

When we confess that we are sinners and seek His help, the Lord answers.

He took our sins and died on the cross to answer us

That's why he paid all the conditions to respond to us, so he died on the cross.

(John 19:30) After receiving the sour wine, Jesus said, It is finished. He bowed his head and died.

Hallelujah

Now let us reveal the glory of the Lord in response to the Lord's call to sinners
