Title: Jesus Comes to His Town / Matthew 9
After becoming a disciple of the Lord, Matthew became the author of the Gospel, which describes the life, ministry, and teachings of Jesus Christ, who is the Gospel. Here in Chapter 9, following Chapter 8, Jesus described the work of coming to sinners and the sick, and they came to the Lord and received the grace of forgiveness and healing.
1 “People brought in a paralytic lying on a bed” (1-17)
The way sinners and the sick live is the way Jesus ‘comes’ to me and the way I ‘come’ to Jesus, either by myself or being led by someone else’s hand. Jesus ‘came’ to the town of Capernaum where the paralytic lived, and the paralytic ‘came out’ to Jesus by four men. I came before the Lord through your interest, love, faith, evangelism, and help. He himself would have come to the bed with gratitude rather than stubbornly rejecting it. Eventually, he was forgiven of his sins and healed, and he “gets up” and returns to his bed. It was the scribes, who were still Jewish, who were displeased with this ministry. Jesus has the power to forgive sins and heal diseases.
Jesus also told Matthew the tax collector to ‘come’ and follow him, and Matthew ‘gets up’ and follows him. Jesus entered Matthew's house and ate with many tax collectors and sinners. These were the times when Matthew's life and eyes and hands were changed. The way I see people and the world has changed. It was the Pharisees, who were still Jewish, who were displeased with this work. Here again Jesus clearly declared that he came to call the sick and sinners. Jesus continued to say that meeting Jesus and receiving the forgiveness of sins and the grace of healing and joy is more important than religious ceremonies such as fasting. Jesus ushered in a new age.
2 “An employee came and bowed… A woman with a blood problem came” (18-34)
3 “Jesus went through all the towns and villages” (35-38)
Jesus' ministry was a ministry of 'going around' in search of sinners and the sick, 'teaching', 'preaching the gospel,' and 'healing all diseases'. ' It was a job. This is a form of ministry that all disciples who follow the Lord should imitate.
